Door edge protectors for Yeti

Featured Replies

I've had a couple of incidents recently with strong gusts of wind catching the door at unhelpful moments, resulting in a last-minute grab of the door to prevent it hitting an adjacent car. I've been wondering about getting something to pad the most prominent bits of the door edges, to minimise the risk of damage (to the Yeti and/or to the other car) should I not be able to intervene so effectively in future. I had a look at what was on offer in Halfrauds at the weekend but left empty handed for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they were all self-adhesive, which doesn't strike me as being particularly reliable on anything other than a straight or gently curved surface. Secondly, they all seemed to stick out quite a way, suggesting that they might create wind noise at speed.

Anyone got any recommendations for products of this type that do stay put and don't cause noise?

(I've taken to trying to park head-on to the prevailing wind when possible, but obviously the elements cannot be expected to behave in a helpfully predictable manner...well, ever, really.)

Due to the rubber seals between front and rear doors on the Yeti I would not expect it to be possible to fit typical door edge protectors.

I agree typical door edge protectors are unlikely to fit. I suggest using some SCOTCHGARD PAINT PROTECTION 3M FILM available in various sizes as from: http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_6296wt_1139

I agree that the old-style clip-on type protectors are unlikely to work well/at all with the door seals. The ones I was looking at in Halfruads were all self-adhesive and stuck just to the outer door skin, so I don't think they would interfere with the seals. I'm a bit dubious about the long-term effectiveness of the self-adhesive glue, though.

I'm not convinced that the 3M film would offer much protection in the event of a firm (if inadvertent) whack of the door edge against another vehicle. I think you need a bit more padding than that.

Another hazard is the rails that Sainsburys put round their trolley sheds, which are low enough not to be readily visible as you turn to open the door from inside, but are plenty solid enough to make a mark if you open the door on to them by mistake. I know that we should all be more careful, but everyone makes mistakes...

These are simple, cheap, come in various colours and easy to clip off / on when washing the car, no issues with the panel gap between the doors, same price at our local "Range" store

Unfortunately, clipping them on & off when cleaning the car will scratch the paint in time - Over the years I've used them on several cars and grit gets behind the leading edge and so you get marks in the paint eventually. At the price, they are worth trying - and then you can make up your own mind!
