I asked APR if they could overlay a stock Fabia vRS with a stage 1 and a hybrid vRS to see the difference on paper. Pretty impressed and backs up the responses to the car at Silverstone today.

Its not the easiest to read, but put simply, stock is the lowest of the two curves, stage 1 the middle two, and hybrid the bold top two curves.

Hopefully a little more power is to be released in the next month or two whilst APR finish the development of the software. Theres a few more tweaks and mods to be fitted to allow us to run more.

Your intake temperature is 50 degrees c ?.

It was getting hot in there to be fair. We had done ALOT of runs as well.

Thats cool though, you should see IATs on 1.4TSI cars with stock ICs. Woeful!!

the thing i noticed is that the current dyno run is SAE corrected and your old was DIN.

the thing with SAE is, if the intake temps raising your Power Peaks very high up to 35% more.

example:

Air Temp (°C) Peak Power (DIN) Peak Power (SAE)

10 167.0 kW 169.9 kW

35 176.3 kW 186.4 kW

50 185.1 kW 236.9 kW

So what you can see is that at 10 °C there is very little difference. At 35 °C the SAE correction gives a gain of 10.1 kW over DIN, while at 50 °C the gain is a massive 51.8 kW! What this means is that if the air temperature measured by the dyno was 50 °C, then changing between DIN and SAE would skew your results by over 50 kW atw. Not very realistic in my opinion!

Ok so 50 °C is getting pretty hot but depending where the dyno operator places the temp probe it is definitely not impossible, particularly in turbocharged engines.

tbh, i dont read into this SAE and DIN etc. Thast for the operator. I look at the numbers. Plus with the machinery i was outdragging at silverstone today id say ball park figures are close enough. Id be shocked if it was less considering that

The obd reading is taken from the maf isn't it?

wouldnt be MAF as that's before the turbo. The temperature is post intercooler, so itsprobably the MAP sensor id imagine

Not rhe actual map sensot but that woll be where the twmperature will be.

my figures were in the 50s when ambient was in the 20s so its definitely not pre intercooler

I'd love to see where this temperature sensor is and what purpose it serves.

I have never used a MAHA dyno though and also not heard of one which takes data directly from the OBD port although that does sound like a useful feature

On most dynos, the operator inputs the temperatures into the dyno software , the dyno I usually use (Dyno Dynamics) has a weather station on the wall (AT) and measured from a probe placed close to the airbox (IT) and the readings are taken when session starts , these are rarely updated run to run, and as already mentioned by fabianoh5n1 the difference in temperature has a huge bearing on the hp reading from the dyno , this is the Number 1 way that dynos are manipulated to give higher readings

Now I'm not for a minute suggesting anything untoward is going on but questions are bound to be asked, the whole purpose of the temperature reading is to provide a correction factor so that if you took your car to the dyno on a 30 degree summers day and then again in the depths of winter the readings "should" be about the same

No idea mate, but the temp sensor has been installed by VAG in the design of the car, and will also be critical to the safety systems within the ECU, so id imagine its been put in the optimum position. tbh i dont read into the ins and outs of the dyno, the figures feel about right considering the machinery that it can keep up with down the straights.

The MAP sensors on these engines measure both pressure & temp. And there are a couple of them from what I remember from the measuring blocks.
