A68- Looking For Fuel Stops

Featured Replies

Will be travelling on my bike on A68, from A1(M), to Edinburgh with a limited fuel range, on Friday. Has anyone spotted open garages recently? Last time I did the trip fuelled at Tow Law and also Jedburgh coming south. I assume the garage/cafe at Catcleugh reservoir is closed AFAIK?

TIA

There's a petrol station in Fir Tree, a few miles south of Tow Law.

You could take a short detour off the A68 to go through Corbridge and use the petrol station there, barely out of your way.

I think the next one on the A68 north of Corbridge might be Jedburgh.

Eddie,

Thanks . My BIL also mentioned Fir Tree. That should get me up to Edinburgh OK.

have a look at http://www.petrolprices.com/ as it will tell you what stations are near a location and if you have an idea of where you would like to fill up just put the place in

OK thanks. Confirmed the two I'd heard of at Fir Tree and Tow Law. Should get to Edinburgh from there.

Another suggestion. About 10 miles north of Fir Tree is Carterway Heads with a pub called The Manor House which does high class pub meals.Opposite the pub is a petrol station right on the A68. this is about 6 miles south of the big roundabout at

Styford shortly before the A68 crosses the River Tyne.

If you want a bit more choice you could always turn off at Castleside, about 25 mile south of Corbridge, into Consett where there are 3 including Tesco & Morrisons.

Now all I need is some decent weather.

A68 - a great road, but now spoilt by a proliferation of speed cameras.

I normally use the Shell Garage in Jedburgh on the way through.

John.

Just come off at the Newcastle airport road, there is one there, then the next is jedburgh, and the best bit is no speed cameras, except for 1 at the highwayman about 10 miles past the airport, the next is at the bottom of Carter bar on the Scottish side after then a few more, do not stop at Stboswells Earlston or lauder they are over charging.

You could change your rout slightly and come via Galashiels where there is an Asda right on the A7 then the next one is at Gorbridge and no speed cameras just slow down going through Stow

I've a good knowledge of the roads- just used to a larger fuel tank. I like the A701, the Devil's Beeftub to Moffat is a favourite and the A7 is OK as well. I consider the A68 not to be the fastest, but the most scenic despite the speed cameras. An advantage of a bike is the speed cameras would flash at my front (not always).

Will come south by a different route.

Once over the Border you have Jedburgh, St Boswells and Earlston fuel stops all before Edinburgh - but doubt if any of these do 24 hrs service.

may I suggest that you are being scatter gunned here and should keep to the A68 stations and towns in you question. if you get anywhere near Newcastle airport you are miles off route. Thus in my area as suggested

Fir Tree, Carterway Heads and Corbridge.

As Scottish colleagues have suggested Jedburgh St Boswells etc.
