2004 CUPRA R Tuesday 22nd July

Cupra R now boasts 220bhp, a Tracker and a price tag of

What insurance group is it? :D

Erm, here they say it's 225 hp - so basically the old TT/S3 engine. Makes sense now that those are going the 3.2 V6 route.

Price here is a breathtaking 37k euros, which is basically 6k up on the old LCR! With importer's argument being that it was done to "bring the price up to level with the competition".

Which roughly translates into: "We want to make loads more money off of our customers and we don't care if it's a bad thing for them." Now let's see who's buying...

Tahts been on the swedish market a couple of months now but with the 1.8T 210hp. Not seen many of them. No wonder when it costs about 9000euros more than an RS over here. Not really a bargain  With the 18" wheels and brembo brake-kit and some other goodies it's anoter 4-5k Euros.

Getting rather too close to the (4x4) Impreza WRX for comfort.

And how many years subscription do you get to tracker?

Seems like an odd addition to the spec.

Rather too close?

Here it's 7,000 euros over!

This will become a rare car...

would rather have an RS and spend the rest on mods.... oh hang on i already did:D

Nice car , made too expensive!...watch the sales nosedive.....

You see these Cupras all over the place. Their popularity has been exploited. Wonder if people will shift their attention towards Skoda now? I have to admit, up until a couple of months ago, I was not aware of the existence of the vRS. The 180 BHP Leon Cupra was the performance bargain. I woulda had one were it not for the lack of family junk space. It was only a mate pointing out that Skoda did basically the same car, albeit with more space and for less cash, that it ended up on my radar. Was hard work getting past the badge, but I adore the car now.

The "logo" - case in point:

Yesterday was parked up waiting for my wife to finish work. She asked a colleague who was on his way out to tell me that she'd be just a few more minutes. He said to me "I came out to the car park knowing I had to look for a smart car with a sh!t badge..." Personally, I like the mixed message that the car send out :)

Seat no longer have this low-rent image. Job done. Skoda is definately a work in progress.

Regards,

Mark

Come on 4 pot calipers, a tracker system, 220bhp and a 6 speed box? for

1. My brakes are fine

2. Professional thieves would have a Tracker disconnected in about 5 minutes if they know it's there. And they'll know that there is one as every MY04 Cupra R is going to have one

3. I'm not downgrading from 232.8Bhp for anyone :D

4. Stick the 6-speed where the sun don't shine. I don't have to change gear when "tootling" around town the way I would with a 6-speed

Just my 2p :)

Judging from the experiences of Briskodians who've change to an RS, Leon aren't built that well either.

On the practical side; limited boot space so sticking the sub in in a no no.;)

I also said in Auto Express thay they had uprated the front wheel bearings as people with modified Cupra R's had been having problems with them.
