Power steering

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have had a search which has pointed me in the right direction, however was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea of the likely problem before I take it to the garage.

My 2004 fabia vrs' steering has gone really heavy and lumpy today all of a sudden. It does feel ok at times even at low speeds but then goes lumpy again almost as if the power steerings being turned on and off.

Not sure if it will be connected however when I was parked earlier and turned the steering wheel left the right a few times the steering was heavy and the interior light kept dimming slightly?!

No warning lights on at all.

Any advice appreciated.

Kirk

Battery, charge system or battery earth lead.

Thank you. Was hoping it may be battery related and not steering rack.

Cheers,

Kirk

I had a new rack on my 2004vRS - but it did go heavy and stayed heavy. Not cheap!

Yeah I guessed that would be expensive , fingers crossed its just battery related !!

Just had a call from the garage who say fault code showing for power steering angle sensor( or something like that) he says all else looks ok so fingers crossed changing that will sort it.

Have been told today that it's not the sensor, but the pump that's gone.

Just having a look for a slightly cheaper option than the garage have given me and on the part number from my pump it seems to be the same as for most fabias, seats and Vw polos.. Does this sound right? Part number is 6q0423156ab.

Am on the verge of buying one with this part number but it doesn't specifically state vrs and am

Doubting myself!

Thanks in advance,

Kirk

I think they are all about the same. Most motor factors only list one. Genuine one has now gone over to a 6R number which is Fabia II and costs just shy of £700 inc VAT.

I got one from GSF last week for £250.

Cheers for the reply mate. Will get one ordered then!

Hi, not sure if anyone can help? My powersteering pump is making a noise, i took my skoda Fabia 1.4 diseal wk10 back to main dealer as its under warrenty. After they inspected it i was told that I currently have a bent bracket and the pump is not running in line? About 6 months ago I was involved in a slow speed impact ( left front side) which the insurance company put right, well so they say! I have since gone back to my insurance company and they have said that it could not have been bend in the collision as there is a plastic water bottle between the point of contact and this bracket which shows NO signs of damage! The insurance company will NOT sort this bracket unless I can prove that it was bent in the accident ! Has Anyone got any ideas on how this could have got bent without damaging the plastic water bottle? It was suggested to me that it was damaged underneath the car through the sump cover, which is plastic, sorry I am not macnically minded and don't really understand how all this works. If anyone can HELP, I would be most greatfull and also what damage is having a bent power steering bracket with the pump not running in alignment? Many thanks. , cass

If that is the case the bracket is about £10 and takes 15 mins tops to change.

I had a similar thing on my fiesta, turns out my floor mat was rubbing the steering lol facepalm moment when the bloke at ford pulled the mat back lol
