Failing Turbo

Recommended Posts

My replacement turbo has had the police siren (albeit fairly quiet) since the day I drove it off the Skoda dealers forecourt.

Took it back and they said it's fine.

Done 20,000 miles since then and all appears OK.

Mines had that noise for around 30k miles. [crosses fingers]

@andyvee Ouch! Lucky you weren't hit. The first time this problem manifested, I had just got up to speed on a dual carriageway, overtaking a few cars, but luckily the momentum I'd built up carried me past them and back into the inside lane. They probably wondered why I then slowly drifted down to about 40mph before turning off!

I've got a Skoda Octavia elegance and this happens every now and again. Its mainly when joining motorways....i give it the bean on the slip road to join the motorway and the turbo cuts out and and speed dies. If i turn the car off and back on again the turbo works again. The turbo does not whistle or make any loud noises either.

  • 2 months later...

Took mine in for a diagnosis check and the garage (indy) said it brought up two codes...p1698 steering column fault memory and po234 boost pressure control above limit.

Over boost caused by sticking vanes - try the Mr Muscle clean mentioned earlier in this thread, which should resolve the issue.
