Understeat Storage for Mk2

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had retrofitted underseat storage to a Mk2 VRS? I have seen a link for underseat storage, but want to make sure that someone has done it on a Mk2! If anyone has done it, can you provide the part numbers requried and a guide on how to do it?

thanks in advance

I understand it's the 2 front seats that you are referring to? If that is so, have you actually checked how "useful" are these compartments? From a little to not at all I'd say. If you've seen their shape it'is not that practical and I can barely fit anything I have tried to fit in there. In any case, not something which I couldn't fit in the glovebox, behind the seats, or in another compartment of the car. I honestly wouldn't bother retrofitting this unless you plan to ride that full of stuff all the time that you need these 2 extra storage compartments.

Actually I find mine very useful. Have a read of this thread for part numbers, where to buy etc.

Had one under the driver's seat on my MK1 vRS (cd changer was under the passenger seat) though I barely used it. Guess it depends on how much detritus you have in the car.

It's all down to personal choice, but the truth is you would need to pack your things in tiny bags in order for anything to fit there. Even an extra cd case (which is one of the most typical things you have in a car) doesn't fit.

I have fitted them and while not large they do offer an out of site storage for a few odds and ends so for me they are excellent (especially as they cost under a tenner each!), so torch, spare bulbs, satnav and a few other bits nicely tucked away with a cloth to stop everything rattling. Fitting is dead easy but you do have to have the right tool to remove the seats and be really careful about the side airbags (if fitted).

That as well! Their plastic is nothing but extra rattles source! Keep them away from me!!!

No rattles at all.

No rattles at all.

None here either

Surely every little thing you throw in there rattles when going over bumpy roads as the plastics of all storage compartments are sadly not covered by any sound isolating or protective sheet. The only way not to do so is by stuffing it tight so that there isn't any space to move to, or as one said wrapping them with a cloth or similar. Quite simple really. That was the reason I covered my two gloveboxes with self-adhesive neoprene rubber in order to be able to put some things in and not get nuts by hearing them hit around the box all the time.

I have lined the gloveboxes and door trays with neoprene but forgot to do the seat boxes before I installed them. I am actually suprised how little noise I get from them and have not had to go to any extreme of padding or wedging things in. All in all a good mod in my opinion, but like the armrest it is going to be a personal choice.

I made some cardboard templates and then cut and fitted black carpet into my storage compartments and glove boxes , no rattles at all , also retro fitted the storage bins under both seats in my car , keeps the sat nav and few other things out of the way
