Gear Stick Gaiter - DIY!

Featured Replies

Had a crazy idea yesterday to make my own custom gaiter. The OEM ones are £20 or so from TPS, and the ones on eBay all look quite tacky for the price.

So for £3.45 and a bit of quality time with my Grandma, we managed to make this:

My car is blue, and my seats/door cards have blue fabric trim too - and it matches in well! The material is some sort of vinyl cloth, sort of faux leather - and we have quite a lot spare for our £3.45! Enough to make another at least! The only downside is it is possibly slightly too tall, hence the bunching up of material - but we were pleased for a first attempt!

That looks very good - well done Grandma!

That looks really good!

Can I lease your Gran?

Nice job.

Something like this might be good... ;)

But then...

BTW that's NOT me!

Getting hold of good, thin materials that will stretch/conform to a degree is most important. Domestic vinyl/leather tends to be a bit "heavy" for most ad-hoc retrimming unless you're DIYing seat covers.

Go on granny! The bunching up at the bottom is a good thing for when your in gear other wise it would go tight and just pull off.

Maybe you & granny should go into business and sell these £10 a pop! You could offer different colours and for a few bob more maybe stitch a vrs or skoda logo in! I know I'd be interested!
