I am aware it's been covered before and I have used the search function unsucessfully, so here goes...

If I get a spacer for the front speakers, what size aftermarket speakers can I get in?

Secondly, the rear speakers? what modifications are needed to get a decent set of speakers in there?

And finally what speakers would you recommend bearing in mind the limited space, I want good quality, that pack a tight punch and on top of that can cope with volume above 30 on my DEH-P77MP without distorting (and believe me it's not very loud either ).

Any help appreciated.

Im not sure if it's the Sub I have fitted which is draining power from the H/U, it's supposed to be hard wired to the battery so that it's own amp works as it seems like the H/U has to be taken to near volume 30 before it's even modestly loud, either that or the Pioneer H/U is just a quality piece of kit that has a lot of adjustment

Mine is fairly loud on 30, I've got a sub and amp to fit myself but as you say will fit it directly to the battery. I think the problem is mainly the oem speakers they dont seem to be able to handle lots of bass (in drive mode) at high volumes, but then what boggo manufacurer speakers can?!

Just had my speakers changed this weekend.

Took it in to CEL-Direct wanting Alpine R 17cm components fitting, however they found they were far to deep. So they recommended fitting Boston Acoustics FS60:

Very nice sounding speakers, they recommended them over the alpine's as they offered a warmer sound, that was less harsh at volume. Also the one's they fitted were 13cm as apparantly the standards are an odd size.

Anyway I like them and they sound lovely, very clear.

Now just want a sub .... hmmmm have to half the credit card bill first me thinks.

You wouldn't know that I'd changed them by looking, the main speaker fits into the original position behind the door, and the tweeters behind the orginal A pillar casing.

I had them fitted for me though as I wasn't confident with installing the cross over and taking the door off.

Also put dynamat in the doors which has helped massively, no vibration and increase in sound and quality!

Well, if its any use I can post some specs and stuff if anyone is looking to replace the rear woofers? I'd like better ones for sure. I have a knackered one in my room "stuck" to my radiator. I can measure the mounting holes, etc, if it helps.

I have searched the web site and found a few links about installing new front speakers and the tweaters etc, in particular the thread by tfboy (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t9647-.html) about changing the front speakers is extremely intersting however I have two new questions now.

1) I am wanting the speakers/tweaters but do I need that box next to the speaker? surely I could just remove the wiring which goes into the back of my OEM speakers and put the same wiring into the new speakers and hey presto it'll work without having to do all the stuff tfboy has done (obviously he has a more complex setup than me), I know the quality wont be as good but it'll surely still be a damn sight better than the OEM ones? Also, can the same as above just be done with the tweaters?

2) I have heard that Autoleads fo a spacer from a Golf that uses the same measurements as the Fabia, meaning that I wont have to make a MDF spacer, can someone confirm if this is true or not?

The idea is in general to do a search BEFORE posting up a thread. After all whats the point in Xavier doing a top notch install guide if no one actually searches for it and reads it.

But for the record it has been said (on here) that the MK4 Golf adapters DONT fit and besides DIY MDF rings will sound alot better than a piece of plastic. The 'box' of plastic as you put it is a vital part of a component set up. The crossover sends the correct signals to the correct speaker to get a better sound. The std system only has two wires going ot the mid, the tweeter is then run off the same channel through a capacitor which acts as a very cheap crossover but by no means ideal.

If your going to bother upgrading the speakers get the best you can afford and make sure they arent to deep.

i actually find the standard speakers great so far with my avic x1r goes loud and thumps quite hard and doesnt seem to distort :s maybe mine arnt standard then :S

Ok, I have found two speakers which I am considering the Genesis Audiophile Midbass 16 (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3013&cadid=2636c1a5b554e8ab9655b1457da942bb) and the Genesis Audiophile Midbass 13 (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3012&cadid=2636c1a5b554e8ab9655b1457da942bb) the difference is that the latter uses the same 13cm/5.25 inch as the OEM speakers, my question is and I think I know the answer, will they be a straight swap with the OEM speakers and mean I don
