29 years old & 24 year old wife

2008 Laguna estate 1.5 dci. & 2006 fiat grande punto 1.2 petrol

Driving licence 11 years, wife only been driving 9 months.

6 years NCB on the punto 1 year on the laguna.

1 fault claim in 2008 and 1 non fault claim in 2011

Parked on the street, haven't a clue about how good the post code is.

£1068.

Turns out I'm postcode A! Still too expensive though.

On a side note, a land rover Series III I'm looking at buying as a play toy is only going to cost £88 to insure, I can't understand how this whole thing works, a vehicle that is more prone to being nicked, less safe for passengers in the event of a collision and more likely to be in a collision due to less effective breaks/handling like a oil tanker is only 1/10th of the price to insure a 'normal' car and that's with no NCB as it'll be a new third policy for me.

I'm postcode E meaning bike have to be locked up securely. My road has been featured on Cops on Cameras for car chases several times

I have been told, not sure how true, that generally speeding points up to 6 are not seen as an issue. It is only when you go higher or have a code relating to dangerous, careless, drink, drug, etc that they hike it up. Brother had a careless driving on his licence and paid a lot more than me.

Heard that as well, however forgot to add my 3 points (SP50, I think, from '09) when doing an online quote. Phoned up to take the deal and told them, added about £70 to my quote.

Well done the renewal site trawl, and for the same level of cover I'm looking at more than Directline want for renewal which was the same as last year. £30 increase to £500

I can get sub £300, but only by removing courtesy car (ours has like-for-like or bigger guaranteed), legal cover etc etc.

:o

£190 for me to insure one!

You're not 19 ;)

Help I've bought a little arosa for my son, insurance premium are nuts :( cheapest way I've had is the black box thingy, any ideas I've tried other websites but can't get it below £2k, I did think of putting it my name but thought better of it, I've tried most of the websites I can think of so any info would be great

You're not going to do very well, a few years ago insurance on a 1.1 206 for me was £1,200..!!

In forthcoming years, my insurance has dropped like a grand piano pushed off a cliff. Biggest drop was from 22 to 23. Insurance went from £850 to £550. Unfortunately, because I dally between various cars, I don't have a set frame of reference.

It's just a case of biting the bullet. If he's working, then he should be able to afford the premiums each month if he wants to. DirectLine offer a 10 or 15% discount online, Admiral tend to be pretty cheap (but their administration leaves a LOT to be desired) and their Multicar Discount Scheme can work wonders for younger drivers. My Octavia was offered down from £550 to £420 if I did Multicar with Ma&Pa, but they wanted to stick with DirectLine (******s...)

Anyways, in a nutshell, he needs to just get out the KY, pull his socks up and enjoy the bumraping for the next few years unfortunately.

Thanks vlad he's in school a levels but working weekend, yeah he will have to bite the bullet

I worked evenings and weekends to run the little monster! Definitely satisfying. It also helps when the young driver in question can feel the money coming out of their pocket- less likely to bin it! :giggle:

At least birthday & Christmas is easier- money towards car/insurance..!

Also- named drivers are very useful...

Also- named drivers are very useful...

Good shout. Insurance for my Nephew's Mini dropped by £100 after he put his father as a named driver.

Yup named drivers.

Just dont "front" if it's their car or they're the main driver. Otherwise they'll stay in the same situation of high premiums and no NCD. Insurers also come down hard if caught.

The trick with named drivers is... the owner of the car must be the policyholder... otherwise it counts as fronting. And that is bad. One of my college-going fellows got caught fronting off his parents' company policy... but when you swan around in a Mitsubishi 3000GT, whaddya expect..?!

I currently have no ponts, but in my past I have had 6 points at a time. These were for bog standard speeding(SP30 I think) and seemed to make little if any difference. I have been told, not sure how true, that generally speeding points up to 6 are not seen as an issue. It is only when you go higher or have a code relating to dangerous, careless, drink, drug, etc that they hike it up. Brother had a careless driving on his licence and paid a lot more than me.

In March this year the insurance companies had a rethink on speed points......

3 points for speeding and you are rewarded with an increase of between 10% and 40% - the younger you are the larger the increase.

More than 3 points will be rewarded with an even larger increase.

Could be worse, if you have points for a mobile phone offence the minimum loading will be 50%.

Just for the record, my insurance:-

Age 60 plus

1.4 TDi Roomster

Full driver training cover

Wife and 30 something daughter as named drivers (both with good no claims records in their own vehicles)

£150 excess (any driver)

Dual control fitted courtesy vehicle

9 years protected no claims bonus

Average 35,000 per year

Rural Cornwall so A rated area

Parked on drive

£390.

Rob.

Not sure how people think 3 points haven't counted.

Dad got 3 points a few years back and saw a hefty increase despite them being the only ones he's ever had and his age!
