SUPERB LAURIN & KLEMENT TDI 2.0 2007

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have been offered this car for £4,000

It has 112k on the clock but the engine has been completely rebuilt with new bottom end and the problem sorted that goes with the bottom end of the 2.0 TDi

It has had new water pump/timing belt done with the rebuild at 110k

It had a few marks around it that could do with some attention and needs a dam good valet inside (cigarettes, yuk)

I need a good solid tow car for my family and caravan and have liked Skodas for years.

I was surprised by the road tax, £195 for the year! My Renault Laguna (engine blown) was only £130

Is the 2.0 TDi a bad engine? It only has one cam, I've been told most have two.

The car is owned by a guy that fixes Skodas for a living at a independent Skoda garage in Leeds (Skoda Land) so should know what he is talking about.

Thanks for any advice

Your happy buying another car which had an engine problem

Sounds a bit risky to me. There are other Superbs available.

NO NO NO.

Don't do it to yourself, no matter how cheap you find a MKI 2.0 Superb you will regret it when the oil pump drive fails again.

OK that sounds like clear advice ha ha Thanks :giggle:

I have now read up on the horrors of the VW 2.0 TDi engine, one to avoid I think.

He said that it wouldn't do it again because the problem had been sorted. I thought there must have been a problem with this engine when new but a different part could be fitted to sort it but it seems not. I guess even with the big rebuild its just a matter of time before it does it again.

Ok going to look for a 1.9 Diesel instead

The towing weight for a 2.0 diesel seems to be 1,600Kg but I saw an ad for a 1.9 TDi and the towing limit said 1,400Kg same as a Octavia, is this right? If so I may as well buy a Octavia.

Run! Don't even touch it! I wouldn't want a car with any doubt in the back of my mind.

All Mk 1 Superbs will tow 1600 kg (braked trailer) except some petrol models - 1.8T I think.

My AWX diesel will tow well in excess of 1600 kg with ease, although I stay within the limit on public roads. I bought it as a tow car and it does this job very well - I have even towed a heavy trailer on ice and the nose-heavy design gives sufficient traction. It's a pity it handles so badly unhitched - but you can't have everything. The combination of performance and fuel economy is exceptional for such a big heavy barge - fuel is not getting any cheaper.

Talking of barges - or barge poles - don't touch a 2.0 PD with or without. The design is in my view fundamentally flawed and will come back to bite you.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'm not buying it

I have seen this one instead below

Skoda Superb 1.9 TDI PD 100 Classic 4dr Diesel Saloon 2007

One is loaded with goodies and the other is not?

Ideal towcar would be a pd130 ...I loved mine and when towing it was fantastic...but leave the 2.0 litre pd140 alone

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'm not buying it

Skoda Superb 1.9 TDI PD 100 Classic 4dr Diesel Saloon 2007

You will be surprised at the amount of kit that came as standard in the classic...and being after 2005 it will have the fold down rear seats as well

  • 4 weeks later...

There's a reason why the engine was rebuilt!

Get a 1.9PD fabulous engine!
