Random Flashing Indicators

Featured Replies

So my indicators started playing up, turn them on and they flash a bit random.

Normal flash, normal flash, quick flash flash flash, normal normal quick quick quick, kind of thing.

Both on the dash and the actual indicator do it.

Anything I should look for/replace?

cheers.

How annoying, went to edit my original post and have appeared to have overwritten most of it. Tapatalk playing silly buggers or something.

I had a similar issue with mine, but the indicators flashed like normal, it was only the relay that went mad. A few squirts of electrical contact cleaner behind the indicator stalk solved the issue.

Could be a related issue maybe?

Quite common for the relay to fail and cause silly problems, mine did. Brought a new relay/hazard switch which cured it

I tried the old contact cleaner on the base of the indicator stalk.

Assume the hazard switch/relay is one unit?

I tried a hazard unit on mine which didn't fix the same issue. The contact cleaner trick did the job for me.

Bloody arse about face double posting malarkey!!

Thanks, will have another go with the contact cleaner and order a hazard unit.

Doesn't sound like a relay issue anyway. Much more likely to be switch contacts. Relay is more likely to fail altogether. Or rattle like a starter solenoid does when you've got a flat battery.

This happened on mine, last winter. A quick blast of contact cleaner into the base of the stalk cured it for me.

I applied the logic it could not really be the relay by itself - as that needs something to supply it with power. That something being the stalk.

Ok, will have a good clean around first. :)

A good one like Caig Deoxit, will do far more than your average crappy contact cleaner. Ideally you want a lubricating contact cleaner too, rather than a solvent one.

Deoxit is silly expensive though.

I used some RS stuff from the cupboard at work, and then gave the stalk a good wiggle around - up/down & forwards/backwards too.

I bet you did! ;)

Tried the contact cleaner again and giving my stalk a bit harder waggle. Seems to have worked.

The cheap solutions are sometimes the best. Certainly much less hassle than having to replace the stalk, although that would be the perfect time to fit CC....

Contact cleaner worked on mine and my neighbours chrsyler pimp mobile
