Clearing the vision?

Shipmates!

Got the Xenons and therefore the obligatory headlight washers that come with them but has anyone else with the same discovered the knack of making these washers operate when you want them too?

I know mine are working (headlights dim as they 'pop up' and squirt) and, yes, I've tried to understand the amusing and confusing description in the handbook (you'll see what I mean on page 63  ) but at the moment they seem to be completely random. Lights on, wipers on, pull the wash/wipe after a few sweeps and up they come no problem but after that it's anybody's guess. During some crappy weather at night a few months ago (when they could have been useful) I got one squirt out of them at the start of the journey but nothing thereafter despite many pulls at the wash/wipe. By contrast, last week, got in the car at the airport, switched on, lights on and a quick wash/wipe to clear the screen and the headlight washers suddenly popped up instantly

Not a big deal and I can take them or leave them but, as they're there, it would be nice to have a say in when I use them!! Anyone discovered a pattern yet?

From memory you have to hold the wiper talk in position for a couple of seconds first before the headlight wash operates. This is so they dont operate if you just want to give the screen a quick wash only.

Yep, tried that too. I can get an appearance from them no problem when I first start up and turn lights and wipers on. It's getting a predictable repeat performance from them that is proving elusive!

mine seem fairly predictable actually, maybe you got some lazy ones

Mine fire on demand, when lights are on and the wiper stalk is held on wash for a couple of seconds. Then the headlight washers drop back into the bumper even if the stalk is held on.

Never had them operate spontaneously i.e. without the washer stalk being activated.

I've never had to hold the washers on long enough to get a repeat headlight spray - I think there's some sort of timer to prevent repeat squirts within X seconds.

I think i remember reading they operate off washer fluid preshure and there arent any electrics invloved.

Could be totally wrong however!

do the fabia ones actually pop out of the bumper then?? on ym octavia they are always there :(
