Which Fabia II is closest to the Citigo MPG ?

Featured Replies

Just out of interest is there a Fabia 2 that is close to the MPG that a 1.0 citigo can give ? Does not have to be diesel, in fact with the DPF issues coming out i would prefer a small effecient petrol car..... any one of them out there as good at sucking the fuel as the citigo ?

My Monte Carlo (or any TDI CR 105) is bang on the Citigo's figures.

I haven't personally heard of anyone with DPF problems, but there are a few on here who have had issues - but is that just the Forum magnet for problems, or a genuine issue with ALL DPFs?

I'll caveat that with the fact I have yet to get 67mpg in my Monte Carlo, but I doubt I'd get it in a Citigo either.

greenline II on paper exceeds the citygo by a long way, in practice looking at the citgo forum not to much in it with the greenline edging it , best i have seen on 60 mile run was 84mpg, average over tank currently mid-high 60's with 5k on clock, not far off the urban of 68.1

the petrols are nowhere near, the 1.6CR TDi is 55urban, 67 combined and 78 extra urban all variants 75/90/105 ps

daughter has 105ps tdi monte and sees high 40's / low 50's on 20mile commute

there are actually few DPF issues so long as you follow the manual, diesel with dpf is not for you if you only do short runs (less than 10 miles) all the time as that will build up the soot in the dpf quicker and not give it change to regen, if like most you are a mix of short and longer runs like once a week or so a longer run on m/way or dual carriageway then should be no issues

basic is if a dpf light comes on dont ignore it, use it for an excuse to have 30 minutes away with the SWMBO nagging while you give it a faster run and do a regen,

but if you look on the yeti forum few on there have actually seen a dpf light in 3 years of ownership those that have only a few times

only issue seems to be with the exhaust temp and pressure sensors now and again, which skoda assist seem to carry on the van and sort out in 30min-1 hour at road side

5k done in my greenline and yet to see dpf light

Cheers for that, so the Greenline II comes in all the different diesel variants ?

No the Greenline II has it's own engine not available in any other cars in the Skoda range apart from the Roomster Greenline II. It's a 3 Cylinder 1.2 TDI

Cheers for that..... should economical then.... is it ok in the '' Go '' dept ? I know the Fabia is a heavier car compared to the citigo and i found the 60bhp engine just fine for that car.... how do you find the 1.2tdi ?

I have a Fabia Greenline II and my Mrs has a Citigo. For short trips in town the Citigo wins out, but anything further the Greenline beats it. it depends on how you plan to use it also you could get a second hand Fabia for less than a Citigo and save more on purchase price than you would on running costs.

Citigo is nippier in town but runs out of puff on the motorway (we have the 75) It cruises beautifully at motorway speed but doesn't have a great amount of overtaking ability. The Fabia won't win any traffic light Grand Prix but has a decent amount of torque so it's actually quite capable on the motorway for a such a small engine.

i was actually quite shocked at the amount of go the 1.2tdi has, was expecting far less, as i was unable to test drive a greenline when i ordered mine so ordered it on spec only as needed a car that was cheap to run

very capable on m/way will cruise happilly at 70+ on m/way but economy seems to drop off over 65mph

also one thing about the green line is £0 road tax (until hmgov think they are losing to much money) as opposed to £20/year for the1.6tdi and also no congestion charge if you drive in london due to only 89g/mile CO2

I have a Monte Carlo 105 CR TDI, 5500 miles on the clock now.

I do a mixed daily commute of 40 miles (2 trips of 20 mile return, dropping daughter to nursery) or 8 miles (other daughter to school), or a mix of one each. I also do fairly regular weekend journeys, which could be anything (LOOOOONG trips or just local).

I don't worry about DPF, I never did on my last 2 diesel Skodas and I have changed my commuting pattern throughout the period of ownerships - some would have been in the danger low mileage trips long term zone.

My last tank of fuel saw me get 48.05mpg calculated (distance over fuel into tank), seeing 460 miles for my 43.5 litres. I know that that tank saw me pushing it a few times on the nursery journey (no kids in car) as I was late and switched to "Rally Mode" down the country lanes (well it is a Monte Carlo... ;-)). To be fair, those lanes are horrible and usually mean a 40mph average, not great for economy, bursting between bends to the sight line.

I just got 55mpg indicated (on MFD) for a 20 mile trip with varied driving, not pushing. I could have driven slower, which may have helped, but this drops it out of the power band.

I doubt a citigo would do better, as I would need to rag that 998cc (or whatever) to within an inch of its life...just to maintain progress. Yes it's lighter, yes, it has a slightly lower power figure, but not that much lighter...

It's interesting, becuase I looked at the Citigo and on paper, you lose 100 litres of boot (maybe a bit less), apparently for a similar interior space and economy. My dad is considering one for his next car to swap from his second Fabia II.
