My bodged head-unit install

Featured Replies

I have had a semi-decent Pioneer head unit, purchased in 2005 and fitted to the dead Alfa in the same year, just sat lying around in a cupboard unused and unloved. I always *meant* to install it, but never got around to it. Ideally I'd buy a Bluetooth unit now, thus avoiding the requirement for compatible leads and installation of leads for playing music from my devices, but it's an another expense.

Earlier this year I got tired of the Symphony being less than symphonic and had a crack.

I re-used the original cage from the Alfa and ISO block (glad I went back to the breakers and nicked the lot 7 years ago)

Purchased a cheapazoid kit from Amazon containing the keys, a fascia plate, connectors and aerial lead.

The aerial "stick" is a few inches long which makes recessing the leads somewhat fiddly.

Remembered to switch the yellow and red around so it remembers its settings.

The rear of the supplied fascia plate is completely flush with no fixings and falls off. The plate could do with a clip to go in the retaining hole below the ASR switch and keep the unit pushed in:

Works, but is untidy. Did I bodge the install, fitting the parts incorrectly? I'm wondering if I need a new cage. I remember reading here you can get a Skoda-supplied fascia, so need to dig out a part number (if anyone has one fire away).

U fit the fascia 1st.. then the headunit surround clips on top.. holding the fascia on like so....

Bodge #2:

Looks like I need to paint the cage and the two tabs either side. Spot the deliberate omission in Bodge #1 (I'm a dumbass lol)

U jus need the plastic surround (fascia) that comes with the cd player... if u dont have it u can buy them from the cd player manufacturer or ebay im guessing.. jus a black plastic surround (see my pic)
