Billy's Octavia vRS original....... ish

Featured Replies

Black mk1 Skoda Octavia vRS 2005/05:

Std Spec vRS

Optional Extras:

Rear Parking Sensors

Black Met Paint

Cruise Control (a stipulation for getting the car)

Total price payed New from Lightcliff Skoda in Huddersfield

£13625

History:

I found myself wanting a new car with more power as my first car (a 1999/V mk4 Astra 1.6 8v Club) was no longer as fast as first thought. fair play she served me well and I loved that car to bits being my first car from 2002.

I quite liked the look of the MG ZS 180 which I had actually put a deposit down on (not klnowing they were going bust. DOH). While waiting to take delivery I saw a black mk1 Octavia vRS in the Tesco at Catterick Garrison and agin on one of the camps we had to go to for Fuel.

So I poped along st Andrews road in Huddersfield and asked about them. The price and fact I could have cruise controle wone me over and I signed up for one there and then.

Luckily a few days before I had a call from MG saying that my car was not allowed to be shipped due to financial problems so I won really and got a much better car for £5000 less.

Anyway, back to it. She stayed std for around 18 months ish while I was at Catterick. Then I got posted to Brawdy in west Wales and fancied a change so I put some mk5 R32 rep alloys on her.

After a wash and a late night in the Hanger at Brawdy one night:

n713485239_1624355_4449.jpg

I then got reading and found that a REMAP would be good.................................................

So I looked and found a "custom" remapper in Watford called Red Dot (Avoid at all costs!) not knowing about moddifying cars I thought why not and went over from Bristol (where SWMBO lived) and had a remap done. very nice. made 195 bhp and some torque. felt better and off I went thinking it was ace. How wrong I was! Didnt drive the car the day after but on the Sunday I fancied going Caly shooting and the EML poped on. Quick check of pants and frantic emails and calls.

long story short, 3 or 4 trips back there to get map tweeked, then taken off then put on again to finally get back to Cardiff where we had then moved to and car wouldnt start at all. Then signed up to this forum and Fatty5000/David8 came to my rescue (Big thanks Dave mate). Got a refund and car back on the road.

did lots of other silly things ill not go into too.

Remaps Ive had:

"custom" Red Dot Racing map

So called std map by Daves mate (Wasnt std, maybe a slight tweek lol)

CCCTech Remap using Upsolute software (Crap map again, ok till 3k rpm then you headbutted the windscreen as the power went)

APR Stage 1 (Not bad, best Id had but too harsh and needed to be driven hard all the time, not my way of driving)

RS Tuning Custom Map (Powerful but flat low down, felt very laggy)

+

Stage 1 Imposible Performance Remap(seporate ECU)Best all rounder to date.

Upsolute Map vs Std Map vs RS Tuning Map

2642_76299415239_713485239_27428-1.jpg

Future Plans:

She is off the road now and has been since December 2011 as the miles I do to work and back are too much to 1/ run her 2/ keep her as I want (as good as new/better).

So I purchased myself a nice little Fabia vRS which is doing really well.

Cardiff-20111221-00309.jpg

I am currently in the process of totally stripping the Octavia and rebuilding her seen as things are not selling and there is an awefull lot of these being broken for parts of late. That and I have all the parts saved up over the years so seems a waste.

Over the years Ive had lots of wheels too, her they are in order:

mk5 R32 Reps, 18x8 et35 (Marangoni Mythos tyres 225 40 18)

HPIM0684.jpg

HPIM0688.jpg

I then got some RS4 Reps but they never made it on to the car, They looked too small due to the rim so sold them straight on.

From the R32's I got these

Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 8x18 et35 (Kuhmo 712 Tyres 225 40 18)

BILD0778.jpg

HPIM0820-1.jpg

Also a few marks there showing where to cut the underside of the LCR splitter to get it to curve round the bumper.

I really loved thoes Rims, came in at 9.1 kg each!!!!

I had a small prob with one of these rims:

A small crack.

BILD0954.jpg

While the rim was away being inspected and finally a brand new one sending out, I went back to a cheap version of my old favs:

R32 Reps, 8x18 et35 (Mayrun MR800 Tyres 225 40 18)

IMG00060-20100908-1455.jpg

From there I started a collection:

IMG-20110807-00118.jpg

Cardiff-20110805-00115.jpg

IMG-20110626-00061.jpg

Bowders1 had the Black Spiders, Waynd Had the TD pro race 1.2's and I am sorry but I cant remember who had the silver spiders in the pic, also had another set of silver spiders for the Fabia and they only lasted 2 weeks max as the car drove naf with them on so did a swap with a local member for his std Fabia vRS 16" rims.

the 2 I owned for a short time before butchering one:

These are the Bad Boyz Ill be having on when done:

Evening all,

Just a quick update, Today I set too and ordered some new SuperPRO FARB bushes for the Neuspeed 26mm bar form here:

http://www.upratedbu...___golf_mk4_2wd

Well priced.

Then I set myself up and:

Took arch liners out

Removed rear bumper

Washed front and rear bumpers inside and out so they can go in the house for me to put the Milotec goodies on them.

Washed all arch liners and mud guards.

Washed inside rear arches and dried

Washed the body of the car behind the bumper so its all nice and clean for refitting everything.

Painted the rear beam mounting brackets

Re fitted the Rear Beam.

Ill say this, Dont do it on your own, Ids Damn hard when on stands. I got it on anyway and new bolts n Nuts all round New brake lines and the KW's fitted on didnt scratch the paint neither.

Thought it best to replace these:

DSCF2530_zps2e4ba575.jpg

Boot emptied of stuff and bumper removed: Ball ache but needs must.

20120920_145859_zpsc07b1f4d.jpg

Arch liners all clean, in and out:

20120920_153012_zps3ce13647.jpg

20120920_153021_zps8e78c8cc.jpg

Stuff all lined up and bolts in

20120920_180743_zpse8e9d09c.jpg

All torqued up and sorted, ride hight set too. just hope I have set the bump and rebound right first time or Ill have to take it all off again......

20120920_180747_zpsf64c11c1.jpg

Took ages to get the beam on as I left the brackets on the car as they were lined up right for once so Had to squeez beam in, got it there but must of done well over a mile walk goint from one side to the otehr making fine adjustments to one side then going to the other.

Looking good so far, cant wait to get rear end done the onwith the busness end lol

cheers

billy

Nice work!

I set the bump and rebound on mine to the recommended settings in the instructions and they feel great!

Iirc i set the fronts to softest settings then back 2 or 3 clicks and the backs to softest settings then back on 3 or 4 as the rear has always felt sloppy with the weitecs and fancied tightening it up. Should be a nice rid.

Really I shouldnt of got them lol as I know nothing about setting up suspension. Or mechanics for that matter but so far all seems common sence.

Good work dude - all shiny and new B)

I'd leave your dampening equal between front/rear

Fit everything up, get geometry done, drive car for hundred miles or so, allow to settle, and then start to tweak settings.

You've got lots of new parts there to bed in

Mad but I love it...

  • Author

lol thanks Rob.

Not had chance to do much as its done nothing but p155 Down.

Hybride stuff should be here Monday morning too lol, cant wait to get that lot on the car. hoping for a nice 270ish bhp and pleanty of torque, not to use lol just to say its there. Ill still drive like miss daisey

Cant believe you got this setup and you wont drive it hard lol

should have saved your cash ;-)

You'll be getting into jacking and putting mirrors underneath next ...

I know lol but its just to say its there.

So the car is how it should of been from new.

You dont buy an aston and drive it hard. Similar thing lol

dont know why i have never clicked this thread, but im glad i have now. building your own car there is no better feeling imo. No disrispect to those that pay companies to mod there cars, standing back and admiring what you have done is what its all about!

Love attention to detail on this build, and the fact you are "doing it properlly" not pratting about just bolting stuff on! (which a monkey could do)

Gonna subscribe to this, there alot of nice build rolling on brisky at the mo.. love it! i think green wheels on your car would look lovely... hahaha, plus you cant have an odd number of wheels sets in your collection!

agree with the above

this car will not only be built by you it will be one of if not the best handling mk1 on the forum

it really will be the pinacle of perfect power and perfect balance!! we have spoken so many times about what you wanted and have to say mate you are in the legend catergory now !! ;-)

to take on a prodject like this is awesome and to then add in the amount of hours you do with your job wow is all i can say

let you take mine for a spin if i can take yours out ;-) he he please !!

p.s photoshoot ready for when its finshed buddy

Great progress mate keep it up :)

How I secured the leveler to the mounts:

All out after a bit of fiddling. hardest thing to get off was the douwnpipe as my system is all one.
