Where did 90 go?

Featured Replies

Driving in France last week, the speed limit being near 80mph I looked closer than usual at the speedo. The 90 mph point is missing. Speeds from 0 to 80 rise in 10mph increments, then jump from 80 to 100mph.

Doesn't really matter I suppose, but it was a surprise to me. I guess the gap between 80 and 90 covers more speed than the same size gap from 70-80, so a fraction over may not be within the limit in the same way (10% overread permitted)

I know that 110-130-150 etc are also missing but the needle never goes there.

This is the same as in my Octavia, thinking I was doing a few mph over 80mph I suddenly realised I was touching 90mph.

Time to slow down!

Same on the Superb.

Like that on my 2006 Octavia but the 2010 FL Octavia has a linear speedo scale.

I quite liked the old one. It allows the numbers to be more spread out at the low end where you need it. Because of the built in inaccuracy I found that the 90 mph displayed on the speedo was around 85mph anyway. The numbers/markings on the FL speedo seem very cramped in comparison.
