New fabia II vRS on order.. Ideas needed!

Featured Replies

EU gender legislation for car insurance purposes kicks in this December. The biggest beneficiaries will be young male drivers-very substantial reduction of premiums is expected. This will be balanced out by relative hike in young female drivers car insurance premiums. For old farts like me it will have no effect really.

There is also a suspicion that car insurers will devise other type of risk assessment by asking different questions to get the gender of a young driver. Few days ago 3 young guys died on A10 in Herts in their saxo, which drove into a lorry...

  • Ha. I just got my vRS comprehensively insured for $28,000 Australian for a total of $450. Since this meant I was getting a refund on my 2yo Focus (which had slight modifications), I rang them up again

Hmm from what you are saying Jabo it should work in my favour then still, but i'm going to try and insure as soon as I get the registration number from the dealer as I'm sure my quote couldn't reduce much further anyway.

Yeah it seems there are a few incidents like that every week, corsa, saxo, clio impaled into the front of a truck...

Ha. I just got my vRS comprehensively insured for $28,000 Australian for a total of $450. Since this meant I was getting a refund on my 2yo Focus (which had slight modifications), I rang them up again to be sure they hadn't quoted me for a base model Fab. "Nope, that's correct," they said, "Sometimes when a car is brand new to the market, we don't have any sort of track record to compare it with."

Given it's turbo-charged, I would have expected to pay more. Maybe, next time around, when a few have been stolen (thieves might work out what they can do), or a few get written-off, the premium will go up, but I'll enjoy it for now.

Geez...who with...I thought mine was OK, but that is good...really good.

I've always found insurance figures a bit daft. To change my Passat to a VRS 7 months into my policy my insurance company (Swift) want to charge me an additonal £300, on top of the £500 I've already paid them. Conveniently they've removed my parents from the policy as they only insure partners/spouses of the main driver on 'sports cars'. With that in mind take into account I'm 26 with 5 years NCD and 6 points declared. Annoying.

On the young driver thing, it's always been strange as far as I'm concerned. Young female drivers seem to have more accidents than males in my experience, although granted not as many serious ones.

Insurance figures seem to be completely skewed anyway, young drivers always get a hard time. A lot of middle aged drivers are in a better financial position to pay for accidents and bumps without going through insurance companies and end up ruining the statistics that your insurance quotes are based on.

SchuMi2, it's with AAMI. I should mention I'm 42 and on their top rating, so I'd imagine that helps considerably.

Same age and rating...will check them out...cheers

Whoops, meant to say im 22 up there ^^

My insurance runs out on the 25th of this month, would anybody recommend me waiting till a week into december till i renew??

Im thinking there must be a grace period between policies, where i dont use my car for 2 weeks and use dads taxi again.

Or i could get a 2 week policy, that may carry over my no claims??

You can just sorn it for a week but its a lot of hassle you need to park it off road and i doubt you will save much if anything

There is no "grace time" between insurance policies unfortunately... The date for the legislation to kick in is 21 Dec 2012.

The problem with insurers is they look at statistics on top of having massively complicated mathematical risk modelling tools.

Stats say the most serious accidents resulting in serious injuries and death happen to young male drivers below the age of 25, there is no arguing with that I am afraid, Conversely, they unashamedly ride that and yank premiums beyond belief.

I Didnt think they'd lower it for males, just raise the bar for women. If i was to sorn it, it would be left on the drive, but 21st december is a bit too long to go without using my car and no grace period makes it a pointless idea.

I should be getting a quote off sky insurance today and a couple of others that are done over the phone, hopefully they can do me a better deal =/

Keep searching on comparethemarket.com, confused.com, moneysupermarket.com.

I was getting anything between £205 and £275 from the same insurer (Admiral) depending when I done that. Some members here say that the best time is after midnight weekdays for some reason.

Then I got a call from Amiral and they offered it me deal which blew me away - £189 for Fabia ! :o  .

So I asked them to give me discounts on the max cover they can offer and it brought it to £233  .

Work colleague started from £700, after ferreting away for few days he got down to £400...

Spent at least a week or two searching around before you buy your insurance, play with excess and other things to get the cover you can live with. Please be mindful of differences between courtesy car and hire car cover as an example. I did not know that courtesy car will not be provided if I had a write off, only hire car covered such eventuality and for me it is essential as I have to have a car on daily basis.

If it was summer you could dust off your pedal bike and get fitter ;)

When i first got the car i managed to shave 700 off the best deal by constantly redoing the exact same quote over and over on confused.

And admirals 10 months insurance and paying in full saved quite a bit off too.. Its just not going lower now.. Not working quite as well this time around =/

wouldnt let me edit the above post so im having to double post.

just got a call off sky insurance, tried to get a quote but unfortunately, they wont insure anybody in the BB postcode area :(

my rating is C and they wont insure it, bad times.

Ridiculous, I am in C rated area as well...

The whole lot is a shambles! I'm in a B postcode and live out in the sticks, my friend also lives in a B postcode but on the edge of a town and for the same quote just changing the postcode.. a difference of £1200. He only lives 5 miles away

lots of car insurance fraud here, people intentionally causing accidents and having a few witnesses coming forward saying it was the other driver that caused it. happened to my cus a few weeks back, other person pulled out from a stop sign and hadnt timed it right, luckily the police got there before his 10/15 witnesses too.
