Light knocking noise from engine on VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all..

In the last few weeks I've become aware of light knocking noise from my engine, normally when it's up to temperature (doesnt seem to do it when cold) and really only noticable when just bring the revs up from idle to about 1,200RPM... it's not very loud but it's quite noticeable in the cabin and I'm pretty sure this has only recently become a problem in the last few weeks. Based on experience from other engines and cars I've owned, it has the sound of something from the bottom end which obviously concerns me!

I found this thread from nearly three years ago which sounds similar but there were no more updates on this:

I do have a warranty on my Octavia thankfully and I just wondered if anyone else has had this, or if there is any more current information on this problem? It's a 2006 2.0 TFSI with about 55k on the clock. It'd presume it's running with the correct oil as was last serviced at a Skoda main dealer.

Do I need to be seeing about getting my car checked out at a dealership?

Thanks.

Thanks.

If it's under warranty I think that would be a very good idea.

Could be the Oil strainer in the sump but as said get the dealer to sort it under warranty.

Just a bit more info on this in case anyone has any thoughts or more importantly has had similar problems and had them corrected!

It doesn't seem to do it from cold - engine sounds totally normal from cold. I normally notice it more once I've driven for a while, stopped, and then restarted the car. It's definitely more of a knock than a tap so doesn't sound tappet or valve train related. And it's actually quite quiet - you can hear it at idle and when you apply a few hundred extra revs but then when you get driving it doesn't seem to be there.

Certainly an interesting one.

Are you running it on 'Minimum 95 ron' petrol

or 97ron - 99 ron, Sainsbury/Shell V Power/Tesco Momentum etc ?

I run it on 97-98RON I'd say 90% of the time, with the occasional top up of the cheap stuff when I'm on the run up to pay day and getting a bit skint! I'll give it a tankful of Optimax this week and see how it sounds.

Looking at it from another angle here but when you put your foot down on the clutch pedal does the sound go away?

Seems you have it at idle and low revs so just seeing if it's DMF related.
