1.9tdi ATD EGR delete questions

Featured Replies

Total EGR ignorant here - trying to grasp all the benefits with all the talk about it lately! Also nobody seems to mention the ATD engine when talking about it - always the VRS engine codes!

- Is it simple to do?

- What difference will it make to MPG/power?

- Do I lose the ASV on an ATD?

- Does it need mapping out on an ATD?

- Can it be as simple (and cheap) as the coke can mod?

Cheers!

U can do the coke can mod on any egr + this will keep the ASR... the egr valve is alot smaller on the ATD so will harder 2 find sumwhere that does 1.. an ASZ/ BLT egr delete will NOT fit.

If u do the coke can mod.. u wont need to map it out.. just clean the egr out to improve the airflow abit.

If u manage to find a EGR delete for the ATD then it will get rid of the ASR which is not a problem. U might find it puts the engine light on.. if it does then u can map it out

.. if it doesnt (i shudnt think it would) then u wont need 2 map it out.

+ Coke can + proper delete are both easy to do.. i have a picture guide in my build thread of the coke can method..

Hope that helps ;)

The coke can mod is presumably only half as effective as blanking the whole thing though? I actually saw your pictures which is what drew my attention to it! I guess the added bonus is it doesn't keep getting dirty, too?! If its a smaller size former, too, do I assume it has a lesser role than in the VRS engine?

Why not either turn the EGR down with vagcom or get it deleted in the software and leave the physical EGR in place, thus retaining the ASV. EGR delete wont really enhance performance, and can have a negative impact on consumption, depending on your daily mileage, as the engine takes longer to reach optimum running temperature.

Coke can blocks the EGR valve completely + leaves the ASV working.. the advantage of a full EGR valve delete is the smooth internal of the EGR pipe (no restrictions) see my pic of the internal of the standard EGR valve (has slight restriction from "valve" inside).. but obviously gets rid of ASV.

I've got an EGR delete on my ATD, made by allard

Ah okay - so the coke can mod effectively does the whole job! It looks bloody easy to do and obviously is therefore easily reversible so I may have a look! Your pictures are great and the fabia looks awesome! Do you also blank off the EGR as well? Or just the driveshaft end?

Interesting bondi that you say it has little impact on performance/economy! Presumably it is actually negative on economy for round town but better for motorway driving?

I don't see the point in buying an allard delete if it makes that little difference AND you lose the ASV.

U block the EGR pipe that goes from the EGR valve to the turbo.. at both ends. I choped my joining pipe off but if u want it to be reversable then leave the pipe on + just put the blanks in replacing the gaskets at either end of the pipe.

U can buy blanking plates on there own for a couple of quid but i couldnt be arsed waiting for them to be delivered hense i made them out of a can lol..

Haha got you! Sounds simple enough! You did it with the EGR etc all in situ too, right? What difference do you see to your performance/mpg Matt?

Don't ask me about mpg etc... im running a hybrid whithout a map to suit.. + i have roof bars on permanently lol...

Id take the EGR valve off n give it a good clean while its off m8 ;)
