vrs octavia hard to start when cold

Featured Replies

Hi ive just got a skoda octavia vrs 1.8t its a 51 plate mk1

got it on friday and its very hard to get it to start first thing in the mornings ie cold start (when hot first turn and it runs)

when it starts it will not rev it just misfire into the exhaust.

Then you have to wait 30sec before you can rev it to pull away

when its cold it will not rev cleanly till its hot at90 on the tempature gauge

its doing about 120 miles to £20

there no black smoke when starting or white

just turns over and over then it will start to fire but stalls

stop it and try it again it will run but only on tickover at 1200 rpm if you try to pull away it with stall and it smells rich when running just pass mot last friday like this.

when warmed up it holds revs when you change gear

when you accelerate hard it starts to make a screaming sound when above 4k rpm is this right or do i have a air leak somewhere

does anyone have any ideas on any of the problems im getting

or things to check first

was going to service it ie new plugs fuel filter oil filter etc

You need to check the ecu fault codes first

Sounds like an sai pump issue to me, those miles to 20quid is not bad for a 1.8t. May be worth as said reading the codes and checking things like coil packs etc.

from what i can see someone half removed the sai

ie the pump gone and the piping up to the egr valve body?. has been broken off  and wiring just cut to pump :wall: (dont see that when i first saw the car)

so just been reading up about removing the full sai syslem would this making it not start

i was thinking a bad ecu coolant sensor

looks like 1 2 cylinders have new coil parks

and there a new maf and exhaust sensor in the paper for this years mot and a note saying cel lamp on all the time

and they say it was put out when the exhuast sensor was changed

I'd do a compression check as well

CEL will be on all the time if the sai pump has been removed

sounds like codes need read. Also look into replacing the coolant temperature sender, common fault

well had no codes only the ones i put on it ie maf unplug and sai

so ive replaced the coolant switch which made it run better will see if it starts in the morning

then I got a slow to pull away when foot brake had been pressed so replaced brake lamp switch thats gone now

now have a miss at around 2.5k but only when you drive and hold at say 60mph 2.5k top gear going to replace fuel filter

its had maf fuel pump coils been done as two old vw/audi and 2 are unmarked ones  plus a cat and sensors replace for mot

also when it gets to 1/4 of a tank it cuts out start it again will be ok for about 10 miles then will do it a again ?.

had a fuel pump replaced

also injectors have a oil around the seals in the manifold is this ok?.

Shouldn't really have oil around injector seals. Maybe these need re sealing. It would cause low compression, and when warm, the engine swells with heat closing the leak. Just a possibility.

where can you get the seals is it a dealer part ?.
