Trading in my vRS on Friday....

Featured Replies

Thought you were going to get an S4? Managed to pick up mine brand new for 36.5k reduced from 43k, this must be similar price to the golf?

Interested to know why you got the R instead. Very rare car in Bristol, must have only seen about 4.

Jonno - did you get the car yet?

Yep - got it on Friday!

Golf R's are everywhere, here!!

As are GTI's.

What does the CAI look like?

Any chance it might fit a TDI?

I've only ever seen two or three Golf R's on the roads so fairly rare.

The CAI plus all the other stuff listed above has now been sold. I still have a double din pioneer head unit taken from my previous vRS up in the for sale section if anyone's interested!

Five doors and a huge boot to three doors and medium boot, the pull of the R must have been strong.

Either you are young for a family sized vRS or the kids have finally flown the nest!

I had been looking at S4's and A6 3.0T's as well as Golf R's and hadn't really decided what I wanted. I wasn't planning on changing till mid next year but then I saw this well priced Golf R at a dealer in Loughborough that I knew and it looked stunning so to cut a long story short I just bought it.

I liked the S4 but I saw one last week and it looked good but it didn't look any different to a normal A4 s-line; it just didn't look special enough but perhaps that's the appeal. I didn't want to buy new as I didn't want to spend that sort of money and perhaps if the right S4 had come up for the right money I might have bought that instead but I saw the R first and I'm really pleased with it. I got given a price on a new S4 of £32k incidentally which is good based on list price but still too much for my liking!

I've not really driven it much yet apart from the 180 or so miles back from Loughborough on Fri although it's had a good clean and polish! I'll post a review when I've had it for a few weeks but will post some pics in a day or so.

It's not even a mid sized boot as it is shallow because of the 4wd hence smaller than a normal golf! In fact it actually looks smaller than the wife's Fabia! I have two small children, girl 5 and boy nearly 3 so still have two child seats in the back but it seems to work ok! We'll see what happens when we go away for a weekend though, that could be interesting!

The kids won't mind "cos Dad's new car is well cool"

They love it although my little boy keeps asking where the doors are in the back!

roof box, sorted.

:)

Mine was initially quoted at 31k then the options piled on. Looks similar to a black edition A4 apart from the quads ;-)

Anyway, does the R use haldex or Quattro? Bet you're loving to be able to use the car in low gears! Does it have launch control? Actually, I think you mentioned you got it in manual. I look forward to your review of it. I know a guy who just went from Golf R to RS3 and he thinks the R handles better. I was very suprised to hear this. Must be lovely compared to the VRS. Post a link here to your review. Glad you like the new motor. Nothing better than getting a new car. Very rare motor as well in my opinion.

It's Haldex I believe and yes mine's a manual. Handling seems very good so far but not really driven it with any vigour yet!

A bit more R porn for you below. Sorry none of the shots are particularly arty.I'm having all wheels fully refurbished tomorrow as there's the odd scratch here and there and my RCD510 head unit should be arriving in the next day or so.

Maybe it's just the shots but it looks very subtly different compared to a normal black Golf. It's one of those that a car spotter like me would spot and if in the street won't stand out like a sore thumb to the unassuming.

Nice car m8 hope you enjoy my next taxi will be an audi a6 love the vrs just miss the space i had new superb as last taxi.
