Massive Clunk when changing from Reverse to Drive

Featured Replies

Not sure if I have seen a post about this previously, but a search couldn't find it.

On a couple of occasions recently I have changed from Reverse to Drive and gone to move off quickly (as in little time between changing rather than flooring it) and have had a massive clunk noise coming from the car (not sure where). Doesn't happen all the time and generally not their when I am doing 3 point turn and not in a hurry.

Anyone else got this or know what the hell it is?

How loud are you talking about? Loud enough to hear with windows up and music at 10 for example? That I would call loud... Otherwise, I also hear a small "clunk" when switching from D to R and vice versa but I need to have no music on and windows down in order to hear it, otherwise I don't notice it.

Hi , i had the same on an Octavia when wanting a quick getaway , whilst driving normaly no noise , i put it down to the fact that the DSG box was not in the mood to be rushed , no other problems

The DSG6 in my Leon will clunk like buggery if you rush the R-D or D-R change (in a 3 point turn, for example).

The noise is quite loud and sounds like you have hit a big pothole. Easily heard with windows down, can't recall if the radio was on or not. It isn't the change that is noisy it is when I move from R to D then go to move off immediately. The noise hits as the cars moves forward.

Ok, then, I was talking about the actual gear change itself, not what follows. What you describe sounds different and I don't think I've come across it.
