CG Motorsport 8 paddle clutch and SMF

Featured Replies

So after receiving the clutch a week or two ago I finally got it fitted yesterday.

(FYI I've never driven an updated clutch before)

So first impressions...

The bite is high and short and the peddle feels no heavier than standard. It engages into gear very smoothly.

The fly is definitely louder, tractor maybe, but doesn't bother me.

Can't wait to let it bed in and give it a bit of stick.

Sounds great! Will be good to see a review on the new 8 paddle from CG. Im booking my CG 6 paddle in to be fitted over the coming week, so very excited to see how it compares!

NoSmoke, what do you think of your 6 paddle?

Orguss, any update on how you think the 8 paddle is now? :).

Awaiting results with interest.

Nearly 3 months on and a thousand or so miles on the 6 paddle and its not missed a beat.

I drive 40 miles a day (20 each way) for my work commute, a mix of dual carriage way and B road blast. I have been on a few long trips where ive been sat in traffic and its fine, harder work than a 'normal' clutch due to quick biting point. The SMF is noisy, but not silly, although i feel i have to point out to friends and family, its not broken, ive 'chosen' for it to sound like that...! It was also pointed out to me i sit at lights etc with the clutch down, which i seem to have adjusted to automatically!

Now i bought this as im going Hybrid (turbo fitted, visit to Shark tomorrow, thats another story :) ) and need that extra grab and bite the 6 paddle gives, and the security that its not going to disintegrate! If i was staying stage 1 or stock, id go for a DMF as its not ideal being noisy.

Just read back, and it seems im very critical, im not, im just trying to detail exactly how it is, which i struggled to find when i was looking apart from 'yeah, its noisy, you dont want it for daily'...pah!

Positives FAR outway the points above covering noise. There was an initial slight vibration on uptake form a standstill - ive read about this on many kits and its now totally gone now bedded in. Pickup is smooth, but sharp and precise. In gear changes are awesome, with a very definate bite when grabbing for the next gear which feels great. Its has a very 'motorsport' feel to it as it bites.

Along with the lower engine mount uprated, the gear changes are slick, smooth and very precise.

Any specific questions, let me know.

How do you find it in town? I work in MK so the roundabouts could be the killer in terms of being able to live with it

Mines fine its been in for about 4000 miles fine setting off

Read some terrible reviews about these clutches! Darkside developments sold a batch of them and all but one were returned knackered!

I was considering one of these clutches but going to go for a decent sachs / helix

Hi Jase,

I have read the mentioned post from Darkside Developments and will respond accordingly.

Please read our forum reviews where no negative experience of our company or service has ever been posted.

Please lets try to stick to facts instead of 'the sky is falling' hearsay.
