New phone choice?

Featured Replies

Need to buy a new phone.

One that interests me is the new Sony Xperia T.

Assuming this will work perfectly with the bluetooth in my vRS octy, Is there any reason why I should look at some different phone?

Open to suggestions of alternatives.

Cheers

  • EXACTLY ! You pay your money and take your chance. My point is people claiming that iphones are in some way "special" or even more laughable, for "special" people. They may make you "FEEL" special but

I have an HTC, for some reason, every now and again it just turns itself off and comes back on, a message displays "Tell HTC", apart from this I really like it, we also have Samsung galaxy, Blackberry and an iPhone 4s, all have good features but none has all the good features.

Samsung galaxy s3 looks to be on top at the moment.

If you're not interested in an iPhone, then why not consider the HTC One-X or the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the forthcoming Nokia Lumia 920.

TBH all of them are cool phones, and, as I have an iPad & iMac it was a no-brainer for me..........I had to go with the iPhone as all of my date is 'synced' across all three devices. :p

Damn just remembered I was ment to get Swmbo to call for her upgrade yesterday and get me an s3 :(

Have looked at the Nokia Lumia 920 as well. Just not too well up on the windows phones to be honest.

My son has an Iphone4 and a Macbook pro for the same reason of synch.

Not sure I really want to go down the apple route.

My s2 isn't too bad can get a day with heavyish use, if I really use it I need to change batteries, I've got 2 higher capacity ones from amazon they cost me 15 quid for 2 which included a charger. I'll ask my bro tomorrow how he finds his s3 for battery life

The Apple route is not to everybody's liking..............but you can't argue that Apple makes the BEST designed & has the BEST finish on a phone

If this was true it would be to everyone's liking, plainly it's not...............

Apple isn't meant to be a phone for the masses, slightly more expensive etc.

I have Apple, iMac, Mac Book Pro, iPod and iPhone in the house we also have HTC, Samsung and Blackberry, as I said above the HTC turns itself off and on, the Samsung has an issue where it likes to type its own random messages with anything touching the screen and in fairness the Blackberry isn't too bad but the iPhone has no issues, it syncs email, it makes more than calls with video conferencing and has ichat for free messaging etc.

Lets not drag this thread into a derogatory which phone is best but give true feedback to the OP who is looking to buy a new phone.

My contract is up in a few months. Currently have an HTC Sensation, and I will be going for the Galaxy S3 next

Doesn't help you at all, I know...

None of the latest generation smart phones is going to be bad apart from maybe the Nokia.... unless they have finally upped their game and caught up with everyone else? (I used to only buy Nokia's until 2 years ago!).

Go to a variety of phone shops and see which one takes your fancy after playing with them ALL in your hand, I don't think you will find anything that comes close to the iPhone 5 for shear quality and user friendliness mind.

I like the HTCs the best, I really don't like the Samsung galaxy's as they break and look and feel cheap.

Do you like fiddling, customizing, etc?

Then droids are for you, if you like it all laid and you just do as it says /does then go for an iPhone

Just spoke to my bro and he says he gets over a day out of his s3.

Apple have the BEST designed & BEST finish on their phones, this is a fact and is undeniable.

But the build quality is not the issue here, it's the functionality & user experience.

That's all relative though,

I can get all weekend out of an iPhone, but with heavy use I need to charge it daily.

The best finish? Is this the iPhone 5 that gets scratched if you even look at it funny, where some even arrive in the box scratched, fact.

As for the OP, any of the higher end Android phones give a pretty similar experience these days, get the one that suits your price point, the one you like the looks of.

It's anodised aluminium, so yes it will scratch off if you are rough or not careful with it

This may be of interest to some though:

Your choice, robust aluminium or cheap to produce plastic. :giggle:

No they don't, well according to me they don't, but hey what do I know, probably about as much as you I reckon.Horses for courses and all that

Apple boys just cant help trying to validate their choice.

Far from an apple fanboi, but I do appreciate quality when I see it and feel it, go and pick up a iPhone 4 4S or 5 and then come back and say they are not better quality than the plastic phones out there.

Software is another issue, yes it is nice to be able to personalise something just the way you like it, but one thing I have noticed with the iOS is you don't need to mess around with it, it just works and is very user friendly, that cannot be said for SWMBO's Blackberry.

There stuff is not for everyone I agree, we all like to be different ATEOTD.

4/4s feels nice, they have dropped a ball on the finish of the 5 though.

Shall leave it at that, fanboys troll away.
