Rapid in the flesh - thoughts

Featured Replies

We went to the paris show at the weekend so took the opertunity to take a look at the rapid

It just said to me, Another car a bit smaller than the Octavia, it just lacked something in the styling, just played to safe, almost looks styled to be inexpensive to make. Prices will have to be keen as the percieved cheap cars from Korea & the like are suddenly getting to look better & reliability seems strong, people looking for cheap motoring need to want the Skoda & IMO looks wont draw them.

Its the first time Ive looked at the car, not even read any press reviews, it may have a great spec & be an absolute joy to drive but initial impressions just dont excite

I don't think it's meant to excite though, really does any of our range 'excite' out of the factory.

You obviously haven't read the reviews...

Yes, I think thats what I said !!

If keenly priced below the Octavia & good it should sell OK & once the discounts appear then it will hopefully rush out of the factory door & be good for Skoda

Well the few reviews so far have said its not a joy to drive and looking at the price and spec structure posted on related threads it is not the bargain grown up motor it could have been.

The reviews I have read have pretty much said it's solid feeling and made of VAG bits.

That to me hits the nail on the head for a Skoda design brief - reliable, solid, the "sensible budget" VAG group product.

Audi get business class, VW get family, SEAT get sporty/unconventional and let's not go to Bentley and Lamborghini...

Off topic but if you want to talk Bentley this was for me the second best car at the Paris show http://www.autoblog....ntal-gt3-racer/

Best was the F type Jag, Absolutely stunning in the flesh, Had a big attack of I wants with that one

The long awaited Rapid is a BIG let down for me. I've been putting off looking at other cars for the arrival of the Rapid but the car looks ugly, the rumours of poor quality plastics etc and most of all the ridiculous prices mean I won't be interested any longer.

A true hatch version may look better but the pricing is likely to be just as inflated. I wouldn't mind so much if we got some really decent engines to choose from.

Whilst I'm OK with the conservative styling with the other Skoda Marques, the time has now come for Skoda to move on.....quickly! So many other manufacturers are producing some really nice looking motors.

I think Skoda will start to suffer, mainly with the current price hikes.

Whinge over!

Looks quite nice here:

Chubbs - what inflated pricing? Any cheaper and it would undercut the Fabia! It's £12-18k isn't it?

There seem to be a lot of people wanting a lot for nothing...maybe Skoda have moved above that price point, is the argument as to whether their quality has?
