Just had cambelt and water pump changed.

Featured Replies

Just had my cambelt and water pump changed on my 170DSG Twindoor. All went well. Car has done 87k and is nearly 4 years old.

The water pump and cambelt that came off the car looked in very good condition. Prevention is still better than cure.

Didn't want to spend the money but I think my superb will be a keeper.

New Superb owner here, so when do the belts/pumps need changing? Mine only has 4300 miles, so hopefully not for a while!

May I ask how much you parted with for the job?!

I think it's 4 years or 80k for the cambelt, however getting a definate answer is hard.

The water pump is always advised to be changed at the same time as it's a part that is worked hard and prone to failiure. Replacing the water pump involves the same amount of work as changing the cambelt, so prudent to change at the same time.

I paid £410 for all the work.

In our case, belt change - never. We have chain cams.

Are you sure that your car doesn't have a chain drive?

Opps I didn't read the next post before I did this!

Aha right so the 1.8Tsi DSG has a chain?! To be fair that is pretty much the one thing I forgot to check on. Happy days then if its chain!

Back to the OP; £410 seems a reasonable sum for the type of job. Thanks for sharing.

Hi just had mine done on a 2.0TDi 170 4x4 by the Lion Garage, VAG specialists, even though Skoda told me 120k or 4 years, Lion told me 80k and the year limit is just a con in Britain only to get more money out of us, apparently they don't have a years limit in Europe just here! Typical.

I had the cambelt, full roller and tensioner kit, original VAG water pump and because its a 4x4 the Haldex oil changed all for £381, a bargain when Skoda quoted £540 just to do the cambelt with no water pump change and £80ish for the Haldex oil change.

At £540 you were being done as they (Skoda) also have fixed price costings and ours is for £360.
