Engine running rough when cold

Featured Replies

Hope someone can help here.

My 57 plate Octavia TDi is juddering quite badly between 1300-1500 rpm until it gets warmed up when it'll run fine. It feels like a fuelling problem but only when the engine is cold.

I've been told that it could be an incorrectly fitted cambelt which has been changed recently or a failed temp sensor, I know which I would prefer it to be.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Neil

Is it a vRS? If so has it had the injector recall carried out? This is known to cause rough running and poor cold starting if not fited correctly.

If the temperature sensor has failed then it will have logged a fault on the car's ECU. When plugged in the fault can be read so this can be quickly ruled out if no faults are logged.

How long have you owned the car, did you have the cambelt changed?

The garage that made the initial diagnosis, did they not attempt to read for fault codes?

I've had the car, a 2lt TDi for 2 years and is now 5 years old. The cam belt was changed around a year a go but I can't remember if the fault started at the same time, although it certainly wasn't there before.

The car starts fine when cold, it just stutters between around 1300 and 1500 rpm until its up to temperature when it then runs fine.

Frustratingly there are no faults codes displayed which has led the garage to believe it may have something to do with the cam belt.

Hope this helps.

Neil.
