I know there's a sticky with what oils but I've just got everything I need for service from GMF and they have given me 5w 30 fully synthetic it is 505.01 is this ok?

If it's 505.01 then yes it's fine.

There are two types. The oil that meets 505.01 standard and the oil that is 505.01 VW approved.

I only put approved oil in mine as it is reasonable price anyway.

In theory it is exactly the same though.

Normally 505.01 oil is 5W-40 and the 5W-30 stuff is long life stuff (507.00 spec). As mentioned in the sticky you now use the longlife oil as it does exceed the spec of 505.01 oil.

What oil did you get?
