Hi all, hope to be buying a Fabia soon. Any advice appreciated.

Hi,

Looks like a lively forum. I wonder if any of you good people could give me some advice? I have started to rack up the miles as my job is starting to require more driving. The car I have at the moment is a little thirsty. I am not a petrol head or a boy racer so I do not require a performance car. However, I would like to save fuel costs. I am seriously thinking of buying a new Fabia Greenline 1.2 Tdi. Have read a few reviews, some good, some bad. The bad ones harp on about it's lack of acceleration and performance. My question is, are these reviews by people who only rate fast cars and do not understand that not everyone wants to drive like a speedking, or is the Greenline really undrivable? I would like to test drive one but none of my local garages have one in stock. Thank you for any replies.

Hello Malcolm and welcome along

Have you thought of looking at dealers a little further afield? After all buying a car is something you've got to live with for some time and you need to be sure you make the right decision so travelling a bit to test drive one will prove worth it in the long run.

Good luck

Thanks alkip,

I certainly shall test drive one before buying a Greenline, but I was just wondering if it was worth making the effort to find one if the general consensus on here was negative. Guess I'm settling into middle age good and proper now that I'm rating mpg over pulling power. Thanks for the advice. :-)

I think the general concencus is that they're good however, I must admit to not paying much attention to them. Have you tried using the search function for Greenline?

Thanks,

Have now test driven a Fabia Greenline and happy to report that it's little 1.2 dti engine puts out a surprising bit of power. Certainly enough for me. I guess all the negative comments in some reviews about lack of power are by reviewers who are only interested in performance cars. ;)

Cheers

Don't suppose you've thought of buying a petrol model and converting to LPG....? That's what I've done to my Fabia SE-Plus.

S'pose the warranty's screwed, but I'll take the gamble on the Pareto principal - and the fuel cost savings are to die for.

The good news is have ordered a brand new Fabia Greenline; the bad news is 3 month wait!

Still, best things in life, and all that.

Well done, mpg is the important thing nowadays..... Power is great when your on here stroking your ego, but to live with mpg is key.

Ive an old 1.9 tdi that regularly gives me over 70 mpg, ok its a 90 bhp with large injectors probably giving me 100bhp, but i borrowed a mate celebration a4 180bhp 1.8t the other day and went on a short run 150 mile or so and used £40! Thats nearly 450 miles for me normally. Then tax costs um....... Nah no way

Its all about the pocket

Thanks Lofty. I'm doing a lot more miles these days and I always felt conspicuous crying at the petrol pumps every week !
