Cruise control

Featured Replies

Been offered the cruise control indicator stork. Does it need and additional plugs/ wiring or is it a straight swap and then enabled via vagcom? It's going on a 2005 vrs.

Cheers Danny.

once youve got it out of its nest, and removed its baby delivering responsibilities, all you got to do is feed it.

oh you mean stalk, well itll need a wiring harness, i think and some splicing, then activating in vag-com.

I may be wrong but thats what my octy needed

Damn American iFail spell checker! Dosent sound too nice to do then!

if im right, it can get involved, from relays under bonnet, and into fuse box, and a few other places. If you search retro fit cruise control, there is a link to a company that installs and activates for £117

Sod that. My balls aren't big enough to start doing all that! Might just get someone to do it or just do as I have been and go without!

and the steering wheel and airbag obviously, have to come off aswell

That's not too bad. It's just electrics I don't like sod wiring into the fuse box and relays. Let someone else bugger it up! That's probably the only good advise my dad has ever given me.

haha yes. there is a wiring loom that has to be bought aswell. kits on ebay are £68 so an hour of labour, maybe £130 all in

Got a bit of research to do now! Thanks for your help.

Regards Danny.

I've seen a few places that fit it, quite tempted myself and I don't do many M'way miles.

Can you still build up speed though? Just can't help but think it would get annoying having to deactivate the cruise control to add a few mph when that ****er in the middle lane puts his foot down so you can't get past

As far as I know yeah you can put your foot down brake or put the clutch in and it switches off and has to be reset to the speed you want after. Well it was like that in swimbo's mums Volvo.

Putting your foot on the brake or clutch will turn it off, pressing resume will let it go back to the previously selected speed. Pressing the accelerator will let you go faster but when you take your foot off it will again revert back to the previously selected speed, which has caused accidents when people have forgot they had it on.

I rented an astra a year or two back and the only way of turning the Damn thing off was to brake, no button to press which I thought was dangerous

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

When I was thinking about cruise control for the Octy awesome were the cheapest by a fair margin

I thought fellow brisky Tech1e fitted them?

They are really easy to fit honestly.

I hesitated for a while after having the stalks ready to fit for months but once I got on with it then it was easy.

I bought the wiring harness from Kufatec.

It's basically a matter of installing the stalk then using the wiring harness to push the pins into the connector on the stalk (they are all numbered) then plug the other end into the CCM. You then just need a switched live from the fuse box and then (the hardest part) is to tap into a wire on the ECU harness.

Just had a look on Kufatec and they don't seem to do one for the Fabia but the Ibiza one would probably work.

If you can understand German I have some fitting guides for a Polo (same as ibiza basically).

Phil

Oh yeh. Forgot about that one. I used that myself as a bit of a guide as it's very simialar to the Ibiza/Corodoba except on mine the cruise stalk is all in one with the wiper stalk too.

I haven't got the balls to play about with the plug on the ecu or fuse box. Just going to have to wait until I can free up some monies and get it done.

Thanks for all your replys. Danny.

Just to correct the terminology here for clarity.

The switch turns cruise control on and off by sliding. On my car it's left permanently on - that is 24/7 sort of permanently. This is convenient - more so than in a Prius for example where it has to be turned on every journey.

To activate you press the end button in.

To deactivate you either hit the brake or clutch pedals, or fractionally move the slider.

To resume the previous speed you use the slider.

To slow you press the end button in and hold though I find it easier to deactivate then resume.

To speed up you hold the slider across though I usually find it easier to use the pedal and reset.

I'm occasionally caught out as "Raf_" suggests but it's never been a problem.
