Servicing costs?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am about to start asking for quotes from dealers and independents for my second variable service, any advice at what I should be looking at?

2nd variable service at about 35000 miles

Brake fluid change (over due)

And maybe an slightly early dsg oil change

Any rough quotes would be great or point out anything I have missed.

I will update the thread on Monday or whenever I get replys with the quotes.

See here.

These are the maximum you should ever pay.

£129 fixed / annual/ minor service.

£249 variable / major service.

See here:

http://www.skoda.co.uk/gbr/owners/national-pricing/pages/servicing.aspx

I get my Skoda garage to do a fixed service but set my OBC to variable.

When you look down the lists and compare you really don't get anything extra for the major service to warrant the extra £120.

Last time I paid £129 and bought an air filter for £10 and fitted it myself.

The safety / visual checks I do myself.

I've seen on here people being quoted £160 for the DSG oil change, so I guess I don't have much chance of less than £300 for everything. I've emailed 2 Skoda garages a vw/ mixed garage and 1 independent so far.

If anyone in Northern Ireland know of anywhere good let me know.

JMH in Randlestown is good but I have been impressed by a place in Antrim behind Junction One on that road that runs behind the place little industrial area I think it was called "cars n stuff" or possibly "Junction 1 Autos" at some point cant find the site online but might be worth swinging by to see if still open if your passing. JMH are good on pricing and flexible to a point.

This might be the place im thinking of but moved the web site is very similar to one that used to be behind junction one. Offering fixed pricing on site etc

Thanks, ill contact car works too. John Mulholland is my first choice and where it was done last time.

Have you ever heard of or used Walsh motors in Belfast? http://www.walshmotors.co.uk/

I have not used them before but name sounds familiar know nothing about them though.

I thought the maximum service prices on the website only applied to cars over 3 years old?

Officially yes, but there are plenty of dealers that will happily apply these prices to newer cars, after all it isn't actually any more expensive for them in terms of parts/labour etc.

Hi first reply back today, was shocked to get it on a Sunday but this was from independent Walsh motors.

Hi Paul

The service that includes PD low saps oil,oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, brake fluid will cost £140 parts and labour included. The DSG oil and filter change is £140 parts and labour and you are a bit early for it.

Sounds pretty unbeatable to me and I suppose I could just wait a little longer for the DSG oil change. 5000 miles could be 6 months for me.

Sounds good.

I'd get the DSG oil done now, even though its a little early it'll thank you for it.

At 10,000 miles a year it'll be a good while before you have to worry about it again.

Whilst your car is up on the ramps it'll save some time taking it back in in 6 months time...

I just had my 35k service (2nd variable) and an early DSG oil and filter change done on Saturday.

Paid £340 all in.

Quality service and price yet again from All Electric in Kings Heath, Brum.

the dsg oil 5l was £55

also looking they only charged for 4l of oil on this service, the first variable had 5l

Hughes Farnhan common.

Skoda garage want £400 for the major service, brake fluid and DSG service. £330 with just a minor service instead of major. Seems like I am paying £70 for a fuel filter change and a couple of pretty quick checks.

Used Walsh Brothers to change the dmf on my dsg done the job properly and easy to deal with, proper oily garage where there is mechanics not fitters - £450 cheaper than Mulhollands

Looks like we may have another closet NI VRS man about the place???? If so have a butchers at the link below and feel free to add yourself on. :)

Cannot remember major service price (on variable regime, 07 vRS PD) as had it done alongside cambelt change but it was around £220-250 iirc. Just had quote for minor service 2 yrs later and main dealer want £150 for basically an oil/filter change and the usual checks.

Local VAG specialist want £79 for same and the young lad who answered said he's sure that is for the variable service regime service (long life oil) but is to check and ring me back as also wanted brake discs/pads all round price as well.

Quite a difference! The main dealers have been good to me over last 4 years and I believe in a bit of loyalty when you get good service but at nearly twice the price that loyalty may be over!!

A common misconception.

The oil used for a variable service is the same as the oil used for a fixed service.

The PD170 & CR170 engines are equipped with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

A stipulation of the DPF is that only the longlife, low ash 5W 30 fully synthetic oil is used, and more importantly it meets the requirements of VW 507.00.

When you bear this in mind it really does make the £120 difference between a minor (£129) and a major (£249) service a bit of a cheek!

Yeah, just been informed of this by the indie specialist quoting £79. Ive rang two other VAG indie's and they want £174 and £164 (more than Skoda and Audi charge!!). I think I know where to go.

This was the vw's garage response

Major service £279.00 inc VAT

Brake fluid change £59.00 inc VAT

DSG oil and filter change £179.00 inc VAT

you are aware that the brake fluid change is only required every 3 years?

Service book says 2 years for brake fluid.

strange.

I just had a 2 year/35k service on mine, and the dealer specifically said "brake fluid isn't required until next year"............think I'm going to check!
