Featured Replies

Hi all

Not a newbie but thought id post here to get opinions.

Just had the power steering fault light come on randomly then next thing the whole dash display stops working. Everything resets and speedo stops working. Possible something shorting out?

Anyone experienced this?

Update

Engine management light stays on. The steering wheel symbol comes on after a bit of driving then speedo stops but rev gauge continues to work as does temp needle etc . If you stop engine and turn ignition off and back on the engine management light remains but thats it.

Will get it on vag com to check but seriously odd.

Morning Mark, hope you get the issue sorted

Speed sensor fault, although I don't know where the Fabia gets its speed info from. it could be the ABS pulses or a sender directly on the gearbox. Failure of this will cause the PAS light to come on, the CEL light to come on and the speedo to stop working. The lights come on as the car thinks something is wrong since the ABS system is telling it the car is moving, but the other ECU's all have a reading 0 mph. The steering is electronic and needs the speed to know how much assistance to apply for example.

Thanks mate.

Sent into the garage to let them diagnose and sort.

Also thinks lights are on when they aren't . Open door and it pings away with its chime!

Will update later

Ok info from garage and their diagnostics is showing intermitent signal to ecu and showing speed sensor faults on both front wheels .

This sound familiar? They have said to speak to an auto electrician as they think its a wiring fault ?

Anyone any thoughts?

How easy is it to change the speed sensors yourself? Or is it better to let the garage do it?

Mannyo diagnosed accurately.

Replaced both abs/speed sensors as vcds said both fronts had intermittent signal faults. Problem solved.

Thanks for your help mate. Much appreciated.
