Road Legal Trackday Tyres

Featured Replies

Unfortunately my Octy spends more time asleep in the garage rather than out on the open road these days, mostly being used at weekends. In view of this and the wish to do more track days, but not go to the expense of a second set of tyres and rims, how do people in the know rate any of the various "road legal" track-day tyres which are available these days. Are they a sensible choice for a car that don't go all that far on the public highway, particularly in nasty weather.

In my experience I trash at least 2 tyres every time I hit the track so seperate rims might be the best way to go, then you can go mad & get some slicks :):)

If you go down this route & are still looking in a couple of months PM me as I have 5 Woolfrace Alloys in the Garage, 2 are a tadge out of shape & I MEAN A TADGE but were fine on the back at up to 150 mph, they have got 4 virtually new tyres on which you could swap onto youre road wheels

I think Toyo do 888, Dunlop and Yoko's are the one's to get. I have been thinking along the lines of getting seperate rims and tyres to drive to track days. www.toyo.co.uk and the tyre calculator (i think) helps you out with width and size ratio's. I believe

Well I have set of R888's on the way from somewhere once I find a place willing to get a set in.

When I do I'll have a set of silver team dynamic spokes (5 spokes) for sale with the remainder of a set of P-zero corsa tyres on.

I'll also have a set of assemtrico tyres which have 2-3 mm of tread on for winter.

I plan to run the R888's on mine in the summer on the road, being might carefull of wet days. They ship with 5mm of medium soft rubber so should last more than 2k or a track day and still be

If the corsa's are anything to go by they will be bloody brilliant.

Then I'll have achieved my winter and summer tyre combo, save wearing out my nero's in the summer.

Slicks + lots of power = seperation at a molecular level for things between the fly wheel and wheel bearing.

Also considering some Khumo Ku15-mx Medium but was suggested that they wear in an "odd" way...or some Yoko's...

Also the 225/45 should be available now for the toyo's, but I'm thinking of 235/40 or 235/45...dunno the 40's gut feel will be better for "track" then again I've got a pic of my assemitrico's leaving my rim a few mm from the tarmac...

Kumho ECSTA V70A's.

Different compounds are available too.

Ku15's are a bargin, with mixed reviews. But at half the price...I can live with a little odd wear ;)

Check out promotions for potential road legal slick gb.
