Removing steering wheel cover

Featured Replies

I need some advice on removing horn/airbag cover.

Does anyone know how to remove it from the steering wheel? Does it simply unclip when pulled out and then clip back in?

The wheel lock I had has torn the (extremely gentle and surprisingly thin) rubber coating at the top, so the steering wheel looks worn out at 9 months old.

I think the Fabia is held in a similar way.

Note the cautions and someone else suggested leaving the battery off for at least 30 mins before working on the wheel/airbag.

Are you referring to the centre part of the wheel, ie the airbag unit? It's a complete unit at circa

Thanks for the link Dougal, but the cover has already been removed on those pictures, and I actually need just that :)

What I meant was the cover

Yes the airbag has been removed but if you read the text and look at the pictures it tells you how to do it.

You need a thin screwdriver or similar to operate the clips from behind - it's easy. You will, as mentioned, need to disconnect the battery prior to starting work. You will also need a splined tool (M10 or M12 I think) to remove the wheel.

Once the cover is removed re-align your wheels and the steering wheel to the centre before removing the steering wheel.

A new wheel is gonna cost ya circa

Ah-ha, now I get it! I did read it, but didn't realize what was on that picture.

So, as you all kept telling me, it's a complete unit (cover + airbag). I was actually hoping that the cover is just that - a cover, and that it can be removed without affecting anything else.

Thanks guys, you did help a lot! It

Yeah the 'cover' as you put it is part of the airbag itself.
