Loving vrs but need help

Featured Replies

Picked up my 03 plate Fabia vrs yesterday and compared to my 1.1 106 I feel like im driving a Ferrari. very comfortable ride and a lot more power then then it looks like it should have. I'm a just wondering few tips on driving and remap. How hard can you push these cars around corners or anything I should know? And how much of a insurance hike would a remap put on top?? Any help would be appreciated

Search remap on here and you will find everything you need to know mate :).

In terms of handling; for what they are the fabia vrs corners really well! as im sure you have already found out lol. I upgraded from a 1.4 MG ZR chavmobile and the difference was amazing. Alot of people on here have added coilovers and anti roll bar to their cars.

As for insurance everyone is different so the best thing to do is check with your own insurer for a price.

Cheers,

Carl

Hi,

I went from a 1.1 metro to the vRS and like you found the performance difference was immense.

When i first got my car i had a few scary moments with the back end kicking out. Where i was so used to driving a car with no power you never had to worry about weight transfer when you accelerate etc but in this thing you have to make sure you keep the throttle steady otherwise either the fronts or back will give.

I've also found it understeers for alot longer than the old metro but again i think its because you dont feel like your going that fast when really you are. In the metro all it took to stop the understee was a fraction of a second of the throttle but in this it seems to go on forever.

Rear arb will make things handle a little more like a normal car, but regardless its still a heavy lump in a little car so it will feel like you've got a cow sitting on bonnet. Cant really flick it around like you would on a 106, but compensated for the huge surge of power on the exit :D You'd want to work 3rd and 4th gear to get the most out of the car.

Car handles as well as you can drive, if one person can take a certian corner at 60mph it doesnt meen you can in the same car.

With the remap easiest thing to do is ring your insurer and ask for a qoute. Everyones will be different depending on age etc.

hi there,

i've stepped up from a renault megane 1.4 to the fabia vrs, economy and power in one car, getting better mpg than ever, ticks every box for me, parts more expensive though, got a good source for parts all genuine aswell. might consider re-map.

Hi we have a Fabia VRS SE W8 performance demonstrator. Shark stage 1 mapped and fitted with a Jabbasport RARB. Feel free to pop over and see how different a mapped one is

Yeah cheers for the notes took it for good drive last night and got knocked off my high horse, was driving through back roads in Surrey followed right behind by a range rover came onto straight the range rover pulled out to overtake so i put my foot down as you do and made me feel like I was back in the Peugeot, good fun though!! Anyone what aviva is like for remap's???

Lol the cheek :p the true way to play on A roads is if they catch up, maintain speed and let them overtake, you follow and try overtake after lol. Least they can show you a thing or two if you can keep up.

But on a more serious note, you got overtaken by a range rover on the a roads?? Take your time learning the car, better to get pro in this one than get pro in your 2nd vrs if you catch my drift.

Lol a Shark map will sort out those pesky Range Rovers !

I should have mentioned was a range rover supercharged so the fact got nearly 400 bhp v8 engine makes my driving a little bit better :) I'm looking at maps where's shark based??

You have a PM

Hi mate,

Shark Performance are great. My dad has bought a self tuning system from these guys, so it means you can put the car back to standard at your own free will. He is also happy with the power and torque too.

I've had a revo map done by Awesome GTI on mine. These guys are very good too. Very few don't rate Awesome, but that was only because they used their own remap which was designed by a previous DIrector. The remap was extremely torquey, creating lots of clutch/turbo strain and plenty of black smoke! However, this one was ditched for a cleaner and less torquey one. The also do an out of the box one called 'Revo'.

I had the revo remap done by these guys about 18 months ago and very happy with the power and torque. I still get extremely good mpg too. Fortunately my insurance hasn't increased that much due to age and years driving. I would strongly advise checking with your insurance before you consider getting one.

Most remaps for the Fabia vRS produce between 170-180bhp and 260-300lbs torque. It all depends on the company you get it from and the way the car has been treated previously etc.

If you need any more info, please let me.

Cheers bud

Shark are now an official CG Motorsport dealer so ask them to quote you up on a clutch as well and they will be sure to sort you out a great deal :)

Erm, accelerating to block an overtake really isn't cool.

To be honest, I don't think the VRS handles that well. It's wallowy, the steering is slow and it understeers badly. My '99 Focus Zetec was a lot sharper, but the performance/economy balance of the 1.9TDI in a small car is the VRS' party trick.

It really enrages me when people do that!! :@ then they slow down when there's no chance to overtake. Wrecks me lol that's when the red most appears and driving tidy goes out of the window lol, someone was doing this to me one day and there's a massive bypass by Llandysul glong down a huge hill, so I floored it and he did too but was gutted when I passed him, to say the least the car was at its limit in 6th hehe :D naughty I know but the looks on his face when I passed him was priceless :)

I might take you up on this. Mine's all paid off in a month, and could do with something to freshen things up! Do Shark do a clutch friendly map, as mines on 85k and getting a bit of DMF chatter. Really wouldn't want to remap, then kill it.

I would definitely recommend taking him up on this offer, it will certainly show you just how much extra you can get just on a Stage 1 and now i'm going to get mine done asap. I would also recommend the Jabbasport ARB as it made a big difference to how the car felt having had it standard since i bought it new in Sept 04. :)

When i first got my car i had a few scary moments with the back end kicking out.

Did you check the state of the rear tyres? Rear instability can happen when the rear tyres aren't in as good condition as the fronts and can be exacerbated by lifting off abruptly in a bend.

Teebsvrs the Shark stage 1 map is very smooth and progressive not a clutch killer. Having said that as with any performance enhancement extra strain is put on the vehicle. Just pointing out the obvious really.
