dpf on vrs problems.

Read posts on problems. My dpf warning light never came on but the ideling revs go from around 600 to 1000.I was told that this was the engine management system kicking in to burn of the deposits.Usually a drive on the motorway brings it back to normal revs and this does not happen again for a couple of months.This time it is still revving fast but the warning light has not come on.Suppose I must not have gotten the revs high for long enough.Anyone else noticed this high revving and heard this explanation?
