Very squeaky brakes

Featured Replies

Afternoon all :) My brakes have started squealing something rotten! :( Last time it was in the garage the service manager said just give them roasting, which i did but to no avail!! He also said that they still had their protective coating on them so in no way did they need replacing! Any ideas of how to stop this as everytime i brake the whole street turns around and has a good gawk!!!

Cheers

Kit :)

The usual cause of this is worn discs or pads or cheap discs or pads, or maybe even the lugs on the pads need coated in copper slip. Hope this helps.

Thats what i thought but the garage reckon they are perfect as they have only done 8k miles!!

You've tried the multiple stops from 70 to 10 on an empty Dual Carriage way (when safe to do so) in quick succession?

After that, the noise is usually the back of the pad, so it might be worth seeing if the anti squeal pads are on the back.

Otherwise I'd try some fresh copper slip on the rear of the pads and making sure the sliders etc are all clean and lubricated.

If it's none of that, then I think I'd give another mechanic a poke and ask for a second opinion.
