Warranty extension after 3 years is it worth it

Featured Replies

My Fabia Tdi Sport is 3 years old on the 5th January next year and has covered 16000 trouble free miles , is it worth extending the warranty ?

Does Skoda use a 3rd party warranty or is it there own ?

Finally can anyone tell me how much I would have to Pay ?

comments please

if you buy the warranty direct from Skoda UK you get exactly the same as you have now provided by Skoda, including Skoda Assist etc. However if you go to a Skoda dealer, they may well sell you their own extended warranty provided by a third party.

My dad found it more than worth it when the clutch started playing up on his greenline with 22K miles on the clock, fault traced to an oil leak onto the clutch itself. As a result the extended warranty paid out for new clutch, flywheel, seal replacement, labour. If he had not had the warranty it would have cost quiet a lot of money.

Not sure whether you can extend the factory warranty to 5 years at this stage?

I was going to have the 5 year warranty but the dealer said i can extend it after 3 years for another 2 years i think its £249

Your car may have done 16000 miles but all the parts are 3 years old?

I recently enquired via the SUK contact page about extending my warranty after the third year. I had read on the forums that buying direct from them would give the full Skoda backed warranty (for example the same as the recently introduced 4th/5th year extension available when purchasing a new vehicle). However I was advised that any extended warranty needs to be organised through the dealer network and would essentially be an insurance type warranty.

Does anyone have direct experience of purchasing directly through SUK, maybe with a link or number? For me a full Skoda backed extended warranty would be preferable to an insurance based one.

Id like to know if you can extend the warranty at a later date purely for the fact that I'm scared to death of the DSG playing up after the 3 years. Imagine it would cost a fortune to sort out.

...so any later extended warranty offer must be an insurance backed scheme and NOT an extension of the manufacturer's cover.

"Please note that an extended warranty is only available on new vehicles at the time of ordering."
