vrs 1.4 tsi oil grade

Featured Replies

Hi,

due to be doing a second oil change on my car and was wondering what oil people were using in there 1.4 tsi engines, whether Mobil, Castrol, valvoline, planet etc or OEM were best suited/preferred?

10w40 Fuchs titan pro r or what ever it is they call it now days. What ever you get go 10w40 as its slightly thicker so doesn't pass piston rings as easy.

Castrol Edge 5w/30, Shell Helix 5w/30 and VAG Quantum Longlife.

Bring on the debate!

my car doesn't seem to use any oil what so ever so thickness shouldn't be a problem :)

I was thinking of using Castrol edge 5/30, we have 205l drums of the Quantum long life which I am using at the minute, just wondered what other people had in there cars :)

I've been using 5w30 castrol edge in mine

How much did that set you back for 5 litres?

'Home Bargains' stores have Castrol Edge 5w 40 @ £5.99 a litre just now.

Worth a check in Asda sometimes for 5w 30 Castrol Edge.

Sometimes its down in price as a Price Check to stuff Tesco,

so that means its worth checking Tesco Superstore prices.

For the vRS I use 'Mobile 1' bought from a Local Motor factor,

but have a load of 5w 40 Castrol Edge bought in at the 'much cheapness'.

I may give the supermarkets a look round and see what I can come up with, usually tesco only sell them in 1 litre containers

Yes, but if the x 4 'litre', or '2x 2 litres; is a bargain & cheaper or the same as ;1 x 4 litres' it is still a bargain.

Home Bargain, 4x 5w 40 @ £5.99 = £23.96.

Not checked Asda out recently, but not all stores did not have the last cheap 2 litre bottles i bought of Castrol Edge.

A visit to home bargains for me tomorrow :) cheers dude.

hahahahaa that'd do for a lifetime of oil changes & unfortunately I don't have anywhere to keep it lol :( I've decided to go for 0w-40 Castrol edge sport I've found at £5.80 a litre :)

I use Motul 300V 10W40 in mine. Its maintains its viscosity until something like 148degrees so no issues with the oil temps getting high n the car any more.

I changed it because hitting 130degrees after 5 laps on track didnt fil me with confidence.

Might give millers nano drive next time though, alot of people are raving about it at the moment.

As long as the oil meets at least the appropriate VW 50x.x rating for the engine it does not matter what brand is used. If you are using oil without a VW 50x.x rating then you have invalidated your engine warranty.

I had a look at motul 300v, I change my oil quite frequently so spending £60-70 on oil for over winter seems pointless when I can get 5w-30, 0w-40 Castrol edge for half that price or even quantum longlife 3 5w-30 504/507 for free lol

Ill take a look at the millers nano drive you mention above, see what the crack is :)

Sorry, my mistake.

I went back to 'Home Bargain' for more & it was £6.99 a litre (£27.96 for 4 litres)

I have bought some castrol 5w-40, thanks for the heads up :)

I did use Quantum longlife III 5w-30 504-507 over the winter as it was free, however, will be using the castrol edge come February-march time.
