loose drivers seat

Featured Replies

My drivers seat is loose, at work so not managed to have a proper look but at first glance it seams the actual sub frame is tight its the actual seat that's rockin? All that plastic trim along the bottom does it just pull off easily?

Sounds like it could be loose bolts that hold the seat to sub frame but these have lock tight on the threads to stop this happening so not sure. The bolts need a star bit to tighten btw.

If the actual base is secure but the seat is moving then it may be the same as ours.

It can't be tightened as it is like a fixed rivet that goes through a hole and moves when the seat is raised/lowered.

The seat in our car is totally broken. One side rocks a lot and the other side the actual frame has snapped!

Same as mine Phil, rocks a bit where you said, my seat isn't broke though. I just replaced my seat for a good one, that still rocks!! Unbelievable!

You can use either a 7or 8 mm Alan key, don't need the star shaped one for the four bolts

It's 8mm hex - but be warne they are shallow and round very easily! Then you are stuffed!

My drivers seat rocks slightly every time I press the clutch!

I've slightly rounded mine :/ don't know what to do next!

Oops.

You will need to try and get them out some other way. Have you tried using a bigger tool and wedging it in? Or using some mole grips to try and turn it.

When removing them on my car I used a big long torque wrench to get plenty of leverage on it and to make it easier to puch down.

They are a pain and are very tight.

I rounded one of mine quite a lot using hex - and fixed it by using the proper multispline adapter. Bought a whole set off ebay for sub £5.

I tried using grips on mine and failed to move it!

But yes, don't use hex! You learn from that the hard way!

Definitely use the proper tool, no risk of rounding off, makes the job so easy, is in your toolbox for later.

Mine has slight movement. I had the seat out when I put the under seat storage box in. I think it's something to do with the height adjustment feature, and raising the height a little seems to help, although the seat loses height in time, and I always seem to knock the lever as I struggle into the driver's seat.

Mine does it i had a look when i had them out over the weekend looks to be a rivet that has a little shoulder on it, that shoulder has worn away when i get round to it i will buy a new/second hand base, fit that and then try to repair it think i could get away with cutting the rivet out and fitting something else :)

Still looking to buy a new seat/seat base for mine.

If I can't find one nearby then I will just ring the Seat garage and get a price for a new base as they are available as a seperate part.

and very expensive believe me! i was going to go that route too! :( go on ebay and message all the people with scrapping your car i did start doing it but then got bored of messaging and no replies haha all fabia seat bases fit the vrs seats its only the foam thats different but not sure about your car though sorry

I'm pretty sure that the seat bases of the polo/fabia/ibiza/cordoba are all interchangeable.

I'm guessing if I get the seat from say a fabia with a different fabric I can just swap the metal base over with my foam base and back?

Phil

There is a silver fabia for sale in that section, i think his seats are for sale still?

yep exactly that all i did before for my passenger seat think it was like £180 for the base but cant remember. think it took about 30-45mins to swap but i have done a few now to maybe an hour minimum :)
