Spare wheel kit

Featured Replies

Has anyone here bought a spare wheel kit for their Yeti (I.e.: as an accessory, not factory fit) ?. What difference does it make to the boot space - how much higher is the boot floor after fitting one of these kits ? Also, is there any probelm using the skinny space saver spare when running on 16 inch steel wheels with 215/60 winter tyres ?

Any information will be most welcome. Apologies if this has been covered before, but I could not find a thread on this.

Thanks

Pete

There's dozens of threads about the spare wheel option/kit for the Yeti on here. Use the advanced search option (the little gear wheel next to the search field), enter "spare" as the search term, select "titles only" and choose the Yeti forum.

I'd post a link to the results I got when I did it just now but the link doesn't work (Oi! Mods! Why not?)

P.S. Re your profile: the colour is called "Muscovado"! </pedant>

I bought mine from Rainworth - it came complete with everything, wheel, jack, tools and foam inserts. Cost? c.£200 delivered IIRC

Jonathan Gadsby [[email protected]] was my contact - he's very helpful.

Thanks for the prompt replies - very helpful, and apologies if I am going over old ground - I am only an occasional visitor to the forum, and not familiar with all the old thresds and how to search.

I am also slightly dyslexic on the computer, hence the incorrect spelling of my Yeti's colour !

Best regards

Pete

You learn something new every day......I'd never noticed that little "gearwheel".

No wonder my searches were never very successful.

I would think we have lost 2 to 3" inches in height by having a spare wheel kit. The wheel is 195(mm?) wide instead of 225(mm?) on an SE so I assumed (before delivery) a loss of 20mm (3/4" or thereabouts) but in practise it's a lot more, probably due to the revised polystyrene inserts and raised floor arrangement.

If you load long items diagonally it's still possible to get a lot of kit in. (I'm thinking items like collapsible

push chairs). Would prefer a more flexible roller blind type boot cover to the rigid fixed version used, but you can't please everyone.

I never ever use the search on here as it is useless. Just use Google (type this into Google):

site: briskoda.net spare wheel Yeti

And then click on More results from briskoda.net » if you want.

You can of course search ANY website and ONLY that website this way. Job done.

I really need a spare wheel as 50% of my journeys are 400 miles plus - and some twice that over a couple of days - If I puncture I may well use the aerosol but I need the confidence of a spare wheel.

I bought the spare wheel kit soon after I bought the car.

It really "buggers" up the boot - not only are far as reducing the space considerably but also the new "floor" is badly designed and really makes folding the seats down or taking them out a difficult and (dangerous) task - there is not enough space to get your hands in to the seat release mechanism - it is easy to trap your hands.

(I have even tried standing the wheel up and trying it the the rail in the boot - doesn't work if you want to keep the parcel shelf)

Such a simple thing but it will cause me to look at other (vehicle) option when I replace the Yeti - (as I said a proper spare is important to me)

You do realise the rear seats slide?!!? You only need to slide them forward a bit, get your hand in between the boot "box" and the seat to release the mechanism and out they come. But truth be told I never do that as I find there is just enough space betwixt the seat and the wheel "box" to get my hand in to release the seat. But then maybe I just have small hands?! (which know I don't!)

Thanks - I'll give it a try - just hoovered the car and had the same problem - always curse

I know I have small hands, but I've found no problems in releasing the catch on my 'not slid forward' rear seats to fold them - in fact I take them out on a regular basis and find this a really handy option!

I must be doing something wrong as I always have problems - OK before the kit - no good after

mines a LHD - they are "funny" here in "la belle"

Only trouble with the spare wheel is that the full size wheel will not fit in the same space, so takes up most of the boot. Not good if the car is fully loaded....

Andy

Does a full sized wheel take up less space if the tyre is deflated? I know they don't go down like a balloon but it might make a wee bit of difference?

FWIW my hands are size large according to glove manufacturers and I don't find any difficulty getting at the rear seat release catch in the spare-wheel equipped Yeti - apart from remembering that that's where they are on the rare occasions when I want to take the rear seats out. Although, given what I said to BillN_33 on another thread - and given how much the damn things weigh - perhaps I ought leave them at home when I'm only driving one or two up? I'd swear the car felt nippier last time I drove back from the dump recycling centre with them out...
