Retrofitting Start stop

Featured Replies

I had a search around the interweb a few times on this subject but found people looking to build their own start stop kits with lots of peopel telling them how near impossible it is.

Ive just got my hand s on a Fabia 1.6 TDI and since i spend most of my time in traffic these days i figured it would be a nice ;itt;e feature that would save a few quid.

As the greenline is now available with start stop does anyone know if it is possible to add it to other motors and what would be involved?

I think the cars with start/stop also have a bigger/more robust starter motor.

Other than it surely must just be an ECU programming issue.

Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully someone with knowledge will be along.

All i can think of is the obvious things and from the other posts on this forum and others asking the same thing.

(a search or google should find those posts.)

Apart from the electrical switching, ECU, & wiring.

Possibly a change of Alternator, starter, battery would be required.

Then being as you are in Fife, you will need to think of the Cold Months and mornings , evenings when the system you install will not be functioning due to cold ambient temps.

I think you will spend many times more than you will ever save doing such a conversion,

unless you driving is mostly done within a city.

You might be able to find a suitable 'Salvage', crashed write off vehicle as a donor,

but that is a very long shot i would imagine.

Anything with suitable parts still intact would probably going to be repaired and put back on the road
