Trolley jack destroyed sills :(

Featured Replies

Well my drivers side and passenger side sills are folded up into a mess after a bit of a quick front tyre change on my octy vrs using a trolley jack . I feel like a dope to be honest as I knew it would happen an I still went ahead and did it ... Now I'm worrying about failing an NCT test ( Irish version of MOT) .. Would new sills have to be welded in or should I just leave it ? I feel like a proper numpty

as long as there aint a hole there shouldn't be any problems as mine is the same on the drivers side with 2 poster ramps

No holes . Just sills crumpled up . I'd nearly try an sort it some how as any future interested buyers would be surely put off by it

you can straighten them with a pair of mole grips and forearms like popeye!!! failing that,a heavy 4lb hammer and a block of wood, just do it a bit at a time all the way along and then start at the begining.repeat until they are straight!

dont feel bad buddy, we all have our moments!

are you talking about the sill lip (that the trolley jack slots onto) or the actual sill itself.

if its the lip, they are made of cheese, i never jack on these, use the subframe, or the chassis rails under the car,

they can be bent out as said, and touched in, or painted with underseal to cover any paint damage.

It's the sill lip I damaged , where the jack slots onto . Not the sill itself . Thank god . They seem to be very delicate indeed

they are dude, well as said, they can be bent, knocked out

a little tip, dont let anyone at a garage jack it on the lip too, tell them not to before giving them your keys, i have worked on several peoples cars who have sills ruined by garages and not themselves.

They are very soft buddy. I have had a few tyre fitters damage mine.

exactly what I have done at least 3 times, use the mole grip very tight to bend back out the sill then finish with a hammer to straighten, Then I have re undersealed the back of mine and repainted the viewable sections.

weve all got it mate, my car is silver and the sills have disappeard, it was so noticeable from a distance that i sprayed the underside of the sills black to hide the uphill nature.

Now ive lowered it ive got to drive up on a monoblock, scissor jack from just inside sill just an inch up so i can get trolley under sub frame

u got arms like popeye tho dude

its the way forward tho, as someone else will only damage them, underseal them and touch up when required!

Fronts of my sills are bent as feck, did try and straighten them out when i first got it but gave up and just sealed them and painted them

some i have seen are really bad, was really lucky on my own car, they werent damaged at all on the sill edge

I straightened mine out with a block of wood cut to the size of a panel beating dolly block worked my way along then taped above the lip once repaired and used black stone chip spray cant see it so much

Mine are pretty trashed too, but, what the heck. It is what it is.
