Which brand of starter is best

Need a new starter for the vrs and have seen theres lucus, bosch or a budget brand. All the same sort of price. Which would be best? Theres a bosch 1 on it at the min

Well Lucas don't exist anymore, so they will be rebuilds. I would go for the Bosch.

What I mean is, they don't exist as they used to. The original company foreclosed. It is probably refurbished using Lucas stock by whoever bought the name. Although I can't remember who bought them out offhand.

I used to work for an auto electrician. I agree that Lucas/TRW no longer exists. The unit supplied by them would have been a reconditioned Bosch one. Avoid any starters (or alternators) made in China. They may be cheap but they don't last. A genuine Bosch unit in a Bosch box will most likely be very expensive. If you go to a local motor factors and look in the box, it may even have a Bosch number stamped into it. All should carry a 12 month guarantee.
