CAR BROKEN INTO - does my octavia auto lock when i get out?

Featured Replies

Morning,

My car has been broken into over night. And they have nicked my Sons portable DVD player and riffled through glove boxes and the boot! I'm 99.9% sure I locked the car when I got out but there is always the chance I never! But my wife seems o think it auto locks after a min or 2 if I don't lock it. Is that correct because I have no idea how they could of got in if it does!! I drive the octavia elegance if that makes any difference?

If you unlock your car using the remote, but do not open any doors, it will lock itself in 1-2 mins. It will not lock itself if you have been in it and shut the door.

It auto locks if you unlock it then don't open any doors, relocks after a couple of mins.

Don't think it auto locks if you just get out and forget to lock it.

Bad luck by the way, hope the thriving scumbags get a come upance.

Thought as much. CSI on the way!

Where I work had a similar issue with the vans being accessed with no sign of damage, leading to people being accused of not locking vehicles, turns out they were using a jiggle pick.

The deadlocks and the way the doors work mean that short of having an actual key or breaking a window, the only way they can get in is via an unlocked door.

The octavia MK2 is immune to the method previously employed on the golf MK4, and if that had been used the windows would have all been open when you returned to the car.

The car does not lock by itself, unless you use the remote to unlock it with you on the outside and subsequently do not open any doors including the hatchback. it does this to guard against accidental button presses.

Oh Gawd! CSI: Warrington. :o :o

That's why we have the locking beep activated.

If it doesn't beep then it isn't locked and the alarm isn't set.

You can also just be sure to watch the car when you lock it. If the lights don't flash then it isn't locked.

the car will eventually lock itself after 12 hours of no use (activity).

likewise, the windows will wind-up/close (if enabled) after 12 hours.

its there in the octavia user manual - pg 25.

Hmmmm, of little use if you forget to lock your car unless it is when going on holiday.

It might say that in the Australian manual but not in mine. Left my car unlocked in my garage for three months never locked itself in that time.

Is there a setting for the car to lock when driving? No maxidot (I assume this is where such a feature would be enabled if it existed...)

Yes anti hijack available through maxi dot or vcds

The day I collected my Yeti it autolocked on the dealers forecourt, I was fitting the number plates with adhesive pads as the garage refused to do so. I had been opening and closing all the doors and whilst aligning the rear plate it locked itself with the key inside. I turned the autolock off via the maxidot, I have not owned an Octavia and do not know if you can do the same, but it can be turned on/off on a Yeti and I doubt if it is the only one capable.

Isn't that an Octavia in the picture? :o I always check the car has locked or at least listen for the locks clunking so I guess the jammer doesn't count for me.

That's not an Octavia, looks like a BMW steering wheel and gear selector.

The Octavia cannot be stolen this way, since the ignition must be on in order for the diagnostic port to be active. The problem here revolves around the keys where you insert the whole fob into the dash to activate the ignition, like the BMW and Passat for example where any key will fit and activate the ignition and the diag port.

I bet its a Golf flat bottomed wheel etc like this one and OAP style grab handles coming up from side of where gear knob is, gater surround of gear knob also, air vent at far side and shape of bottom right corner of window etc

but not those door cards like this one with the above gear knob or something

additionally it does look like your typical GTI driver sat in it. :giggle::bandit:

Er, no. Most of us still have a proper physical key to start the car. :) :)

The article is from the future too:
