Production Noise? 1.9 tdi clutch

Featured Replies

I am having a nightmare with main dealer and skoda, my 59 plate octy is making a scraping grinding noise when I depress the clutch halfway down, I have taken the car 5 times to the dealer, who at first said it was the release bearing but noise was still there after being replaced then the gear box, they replaced nearly all of the bearings on gearbox, noise still there, now technical at skoda have said this is a production noise and is normal for this car. Anybody else having or had problems with this?

With the clutch only partialy released, could it just be the clutch plates grinding against each other? Not enough of a gap to run free of each other, and not close enought to lock together.

Yes it was only partially released, would this be the cause of the noise? My mechanic seems to think there is a potential problem with the gear box, I honestly haven't got a clue I just don't want to be landed with having to replace the gearbox, the main dealer also seemed to think there was something not right.

Even with the clutch half pressed there shouldn't be a grinding noise. A slight initial small noise may be heard as the clutch plates make contact and the gearbox is turned but shouldn't be grinding.

Were the clutch and DMF not checked?

Dealer said clutch was two thirds worn but DMf was ok

Just spoke to skoda tech, they said production noise and will be sending me an explanation in writing to confirm this, also they and the dealer will be giving me some kind of goodwill gesture for the messing about I have been put through, I don't know what else I can do but at least I will have it in writing Incase anything does happen in the future. Any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks, well this "production noise" finally got much worse and my reverse gear started grinding when selected, my mechanic investigated and found that the dual mass flywheel had seized, he put a conversion solid mass flywheel in place and hey presto, I have lost my "production noise" which Skoda confirmed for me in writing, I feel really let down by Skoda as this had me worried for nearly a year now! So if anybody else is having the same issue, make sure they check your flywheel!!!, I reported my findings to them and they said they would get back to me later that day, this was 2 days ago!!!!!

Glad you sorted this. It's almost certain to be the DMF as it is a common problem with these.

Finally spoke to skoda again, they are denying that the failing dmf was the cause of my 'production noise' I spoke to a customer service person called Phil who actually laughed when I asked if there was anyway skoda could contribute to my bill, I feel so let down by their attitude and denial that other skoda drivers had complained about these dmf failures, I have recorded the calls and will put them on the website as soon as I get legal advice on what to do next........
