TDI PD motor problems !?

Featured Replies

Hi there !!! Right now I'm waiting for my new Octy 1.9 TDI PD 105 bhp Elegance with xenon bulbs, 16" alloy, cd system "audience", maxi-dot, hard-road package ...

So, I've talked with someone who own a auto-service and he told me that a lot of PD motors come with problems (especially VW). :drive:

Does anyone knows something about problems at PD motors ?

Hmm - not really. My dealer said the 2 liter PD was in short supply for a while which is why there was a long waiting list for them. This may have been due to something found wrong with them perhaps but not heard many reports.

Based on a lot of people who use PD engines here I would have thought there would be a lot of posts about this if it was a widespread problem. Doesn't appear to be the case :)

I did hear rumours that there was a problem with the gaskets on the 2.0 PD units, and this caused some delays, but I don't think it's widespread - certainly nothing like the coil pack problems on the petrol engines!

I thought it was only VW group who used pd technology anyway?

The short supply problem was caused by VW and Audi grabbing all the engine production for their range.

The PD engine has been in use since approx 2000/2001, in that time the only minor problems have waterpumps (common to a lot of VW group engines) and the recent fuelpump problems caused by the wrong bolts being used on the production line, though this only affected the 1.9 engines not the multivalve 2.0 .

Air mass meters are another headache but again this is nothing special to the PD engine.

Yep - the 2.0 thing was sorted out before it was a problem 'in the field', causing delays and annoyance I would imagine for those who had one on order at the time, but probably better for everyone in reality all things considered :)

I was a little bit worried after that man told about this problems but for sure he dosen't know that this are a new generation of PD motors. Right now, I'm waiting to get my new Black Octy (maybe in 3 weeks, I guess) and I thank you all for consulting !

My 1.9 TDI has just reached 10,000 miles. No problems the engine. A little thirsty on oil, it has used 1.25 litres.

2.0 tdi heading for 30,000 miles and no problems at all.

1.25 liters of oil since new is very much normal - I bet most of that was during the first 5k miles ;)

I thought it was only VW group who used pd technology anyway?

Can be found in the Ford Galaxy, and I believe in the Land Rover TD4/5/6 engines, although I can't find anything to back that up! :D

Galaxy's probably a VAG engine anyway ...
