Another remap question

Featured Replies

Hey there. This has prob been asked a million times but im just new to the forum and vrs ownership so lookin a bit of advice. Im getting the vrs remapped and wos wondering is it worth fitting a recirc valve and panel filter before the remap? Or is it a waste of time. I wont be doing and other engine mods to it. Cheers

No point. Just give it a service.

And of course ensure the engine has no known issues/engine lights on etc.

Just getting the remap done is fine. You will be amazed at the difference. You can always add on at a later date, panel filters and even my carbon air intake offers no real noticeable performance increase.

Mine was rolling roaded see sign off with standard filter and Tesco 95 RON.

Cheers for the info. Its the misses car so cant mod it much apart from a remap.

Standard air filter is fine, the standard dv is ok as long as it is in good condition. lots of people prefer to change to the forge 007p or similar as it is serviceable and can be modified for different spring rates (big washers also help and are free:D)

Most important thing you will find with a remap is all the weak points will be under more stress so a little boost leak becomes a big boost leak. But that's all part of the fun. If you have a combination boost/vac gauge fitted then you will have a better idea what the effects of the map are. It is also avert good indicator of when things are not 100% like you will notice if the boost level is. Lower or the vacuum is not strong enough etc. The 1.8T is notorious for poor condition boost and vac pipes especially under and around the inlet manifold.

Yeah ive heard that about the vac pipes etc.. The mapper rolling roads it before and after map so it would show up any problems wouldnt it?

It will as long as he knows how to use it

Hi Matty, Where are you based? who are you getting to map the car? Joe Power is highly regarded and uses a Dyno dynamics RR and does custom remapping. http://www.chippedire.com

Not in any way affiliated just thought I'd let you know if you haven't found someone you'd like to do it yet.

I had an fmic then removed it after my remap to sell the car

Car felt rubbish without it! Fmic is a good addition! Also the forge 007p with yellow spring also makes one hell of a difference

You dont notice it until its removed! Both pretty much essential imo

Micheal1 im based in n.ireland. I havnt decided who to use to get remappped yet to be honest. Prices range from 150quid to about 240quid. And ive heard diff figures from around 210bhp to 225-230bhp. And nearly everyone i talk to say use this 1 or use that 1. Im confussed who to go to. Lol

On a generic stage 1 remap of either the k03s engines (4x4 150 or vrs 180) 210 is probably realistic if the engine is in good health (re: the boost and vac pipes, the dv etc) 225-230 you are looking at mods will be required and this is more stage 2 territory (these are flywheel power figures as well so something to remember when looking at some people's posts as some quote whp)

However don't get hung up on figures as a remap WILL transform the way the car drives and you WILL be happy with it :D

Better to go with someone as local to you as you can find that you can get real customer feedback from and have the ability to go back if there are problems.
