Replacement key

Featured Replies

I have just had to order a replacement key for my 2012 Skoda Fabia Greenline Estate, lost through my own stupidity. I have been quoted £150-£160 + vat by one dealer, but ordered through another dealer for £95.06 including VAT and coding. Why such a disparity in price, surely as a standard part there should be a standard price, it's a bit sobering to think that dealers are not playing fair with the customers for a basic replacement item. Anyone else had a similar experience?

In Greece this is a common practice amongst them. They have different prices for every single part or service they can provide to Skoda owners.

Id the £96 seems too cheap imo

The difference seems too big, almost as if the cheaper one is qouting for a full key???

Just an update, my car goes in to have the key coded tomorrow and I have been assured it is the correct and complete key for the car. I spoke to the dealer who supplied the car (only 2 months ago) to check their price again just to make sure I haven't missed something, interestingly they have changed their opinion on the cost of the key which will now only be about £75 + vat, and £44 + va, for coding which represents a huge change in the original estimated cost, but still way above the cost of the dealer I'm taking the car too. I still think that whilst labour costs can vary, the parts should be relatively similar.

I lost one of my keys about a year ago and my supplying dealer charged me about £40 for a replacement and programming. It is just a simple key that I have to use in the lock rather than a more expensive remote. This key will do for emergencies if need be.

Then last week when washing the car, I found my lost key in the shed in an old railway coat I use for cleaning jobs etc. GRRRRR!!

price seams low

as the fabia 2 uses the newer type immo chip.

unlike older models the whole key and remote part is one part

Another money making scheme by VAG in my opinion. Before it was possible just to replace the remote or flip key depending on what was wrong. Now its an entire new key @£100+ not good. One would assume also that the dealership would destroy your old damaged key for you too given the cost; I'd certainly insist on it
